Hollywood actor Mark Jake Johnson joined Andy Roddick on his Served podcast, during which the conversation turned toward players’ legs. Johnson, who is promoting his film, The Dink, joked that Coco Gauff’s former coach, Brad Gilbert, has an obsession with players’ legs.

Strong legs play a huge role for the tennis players, as they generate the force that eventually gets transferred to the racket. And according to Johnson, Gilbert can look at men’s legs and guess whether they can hit powerful shots.

The amount of times Brad Gilbert would not jokingly say to me…he’d go like, ‘Hey, man,’ and he’ll go, ‘Look at his legs, man. Those are some stems. He can hit.’ And I thought this is an obvious weirdness of Brad Gilbert. And then I brought up to you, Roddick, and you were like, ‘It’s all about the legs, man.’ I was like, ‘Oh, you guys are all weird with legs. You’re a bunch of perverts.

Mark Jake Johnson joked on the Served podcast

Because of Gilbert, the New Girl actor now has an obsession with looking at players’ legs.

What I hated is I would see a man in shorts, and I’m looking at those stems, and I’m going, ‘He’ll never have a powerful serve.’ He doesn’t have a chance.

Andy Roddick on Carlos Alcaraz’s injury

Carlos Alcaraz hasn’t yet played since the Barcelona Open because he injured his wrist there. He was forced to skip not just the French Open but Wimbledon as well. Alcaraz recently made a public appearance at the FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina. He, along with Squid Game actress Jung Ho-yeon, presented the trophy before the match.

The Spaniard was seen wearing protection on his wrist, and this sparked concerns. He is on the entry list for the Cincinnati Masters, so seeing the brace on his wrist, many wondered whether Alcaraz is rushing his comeback. But Andy Roddick said there’s no need for worrying. On his Served podcast, the American former World No.1 shared his theory about why the youngster was wearing the brace.

I thought, ‘Oh, my God, that’s not good’. But if I were him, if you’re surrounded by a lot of people and have had a wrist injury, I would 100% have some kind of signal that says, ‘Don’t come shake my hand’. Maybe that’s all it is. If I’m at the World Cup and about to shake 250 hands, and someone who’s had a few drinks comes towards me… I get it. What we want is for him to be back in the mix, but pragmatically I think: take your time, you have a long road ahead.

If Alcaraz competes in Cincinnati, he will be bidding to defend his title. The seven-time Grand Slam champion has so far played three finals. After becoming the youngest man in the Open Era to complete the Career Grand Slam by defeating Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final, Alcaraz won back-to-back titles by defeating Arthur Fils at the Qatar Open.

But he failed to reach the finals of both the Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Open, following which he couldn’t defend his title in Monte Carlo, losing to Jannik Sinner in the final.

Sinner had no points to defend in the Sunshine Double as well as in Monte Carlo (he missed them because of his doping ban last year). He won the events and dethroned Alcaraz from the No.1 ranking. Then Alcaraz dropped to the third position after Alexander Zverev’s run to the Wimbledon final. Zverev lost to Sinner in four sets.
