The NASCAR leadership is under fire after the leaders of the sport, Jim France, Steve Phelps, Steve McDonelds and Benn Kennedy got exposed insulting team owners, especially RCR owner Richard Childress. These chats came out as the result of ongoing anti-trust lawsuit, filed by 23XI Racing and FRM, with a week left for the trial.

With the internal chats associated with the lawsuit becoming part of public records, Journalist uncovered text from Steve Phelps from August 2023, where he called Hall of Famer Richard Childress an “idiot redneck.” This came in the attention of legend racer Mark Martin, who shared his disappointment with how the sports is getting is bigger messes every other weekend, when they should have been focused on fixing racing.

This has been going on in the sport I love. I’m just disappointed all the way around. There were plenty of problems before Charters and the RTA but I’m not sure how you ever fix all this now.

The Hall of Famer wasn’t the only NASCAR personality that has called out the sport, as the likes of Jeremy Mayfield and Kenny Wallace also made post on X. Now the owner of second division team Alpha Prime Racing, one of the solid smaller operations in the sport, shared his thoughts on X, admitting he is revealed that toxicity of the sport is getting exposed with the many chat leaks that are happening around the lawsuit.

Every text from everyone involved just confirms everything I’ve felt for 10+ years. It’s not a disappointment to see it all, it’s a relief. I wasn’t just dreaming it up. It was actually happening.

He didn’t directly mention any exact leak, instead was mentioning the overall state of the chats that has been made public as a whole. These comments show the overall frustration the small teams in all the three divisions of the sport have with the leadership, and how their demands are overlooked by the policy makers.

NASCAR insider addresses the officials’ pragmatic comments on SRX

Senior NASCAR Journalist Bob Pockrass has been among the individuals that revealed the contents of the controversial chats to the public. Alongside the Richard Childress insults, another revelation was about the SRX series owned by Tony Stewrat.

The stock car racing leadership was insured about the sudden growth of the now suspended series, with it getting better ratings than NASCAR’s lower divisions. They were furious at the likes of Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski, alongside many veterans that raced in the event boosting its popularity,

Sharing his views on these comments, Pockrass pointed out that the leadership was extremely pragmatic as well as extremely sensitives regarding ventures that affects the sport, as well as shows the loyalty of the drivers and teams. They seem hate personals that don’t shows the blind loyalty they expect from them.

How I view texts from this lawsuit: The Steves are extremely thorough/pragmatic as far anticipating challenges to NASCAR business as well as understanding needs of teams … but also extremely sensitive that their efforts didn’t generate what they’d consider loyalty to the brand.

The comment from the insider seems rational and it would be interesting to see how the sport leadership is going to perceive them. These leaks have exposed a lot of toxicity within the sport that needs to address immediately to get NASCAR back to its glory days.
