The NASCAR community opened pandora’s box, when the unsealed documents from the 23XI-FRM charter lawsuit revealed some concerning text messages among series leadership. The most disappointing one of them all was messages from commissioner Steve Phelps insulting Hall of Famer Richard Childress.

The whole NASCAR community was shocked and furious with the messages that called him a “idiot redneck.” This got the attention of HOF Mark Martin, and he was totally furious over the insults. He asserted that the “a** clown” comment crossed the limit. RCR seems have same feeling, as in a public statement that had threatened legal actions.

However, you know, it got worse from there as I read on. And to be real honest with you, I did become totally furious with the ass clown, you know, with him. That is totally a bridge too far.

Mark Martin said via The Scene Vault.

Further talking about the point, the veteran pointed out that he would always support the seven times Cup Series winning team owner, Richard Childress amidst this drama. This comes from the same person who has more than one reason to not support the HOF. In Kenny Wallace’s words, everyone loves and respect RC, despite the issues they have between them.

And, you know, Rick knows I’m going to sit here and defend Richard Childress because I have respect for everything he’s done in his career. I have a reason — I’ve got a reason — to not particularly care for Richard Childress.

Mark Martin’s fight isn’t about himself; it’s about the fans

In the same interview, Mark Martin explained why he is fighting the sport leadership over the playoffs format. He pointed out that he wants the sport to go back to the legacy full-season points format, as it is what the fans want and now, he no longer has commitments with the sport, he feels to stand up more for them.

I understand, you know, people within the sport have to be careful about what they say. I was careful about what I said when I was in the sport because I didn’t want to lose my job. But yes, I spoke for them – the fans. I would have never spoken out. It’s not about me, Rick. It’s about the fans that weren’t being heard. And I just decided that I wanted to because I love the fans.

Mark Martin said.

In the same conversation, he admitted that he has had many nightmares over the state over the sport and the playoffs format. The passion he shares with the NASCAR race fans is the reason why he is actively speaking against the wrong turn the sport is taking occasionally.

You have no idea how many nights I laid in bed and couldn’t sleep, stressing and fussing over it. And I would have never done it if it was just about me. I’m just a race fan. That’s all I am. I watch it. I’m not in contact with NASCAR racing at all.

Mark Martin admitted.

The comments from the racing legend shows how much he still care about racing and how he still wants to give back to the sport. NASCAR needs to listen to Mark Martin more before making decisions on the new format that will be introduced in 2026.
