The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) has announced that they have arrested former NFL quarterback and FOX celebrity host Mark Sanchez at the hospital where he was taken following being stabbed in an altercation. Initial reports reveal that Sanchez was involved in a handful of misdemeanors, including battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication.

The police were brought to the scene shortly after midnight, following 911 calls about a physical disturbance in the area near West Washington Street and Senate Avenue. The calls reported that there was an incident in which two people were injured, and one of them was identified as Mark Sanchez. Sanchez was rushed to the hospital, where he is now in stable condition.

The circumstances of the attack remain unclear, though authorities confirmed that a suspect has been detained, WTHR reported. The arrest followed after consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office and further investigations into the incident. According to FOX59/CBS4 sources, Sanchez was reportedly acting erratically and doing wind sprints in the alley before the stabbing occurred.

He was also reportedly uncooperative with the responding officers. IMPD also announced that the further proceedings on whether formal charges need to be filed will be decided by the prosecutor’s office.

In the wake of the stabbing, Sanchez had received support from several individuals and organizations online, including his former team New York Jets. Indiana Governor Mike Braun and Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith both came to Sanchez’s aid and called for stricter police in the city. However, they both deleted their tweets following the official reports about Sanchez being involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, Mayor Joe Hogsett called upon visitors to the city to act peacefully and respectfully while noting that the two individuals involved in the late-night dramatics were not from Indy. However, recent reports, as well as the police narrative, stated that the other person involved was a delivery person.

Reports claim Mark Sanchez was the aggressor in the stabbing incident

As of writing, the reports are slowly emerging about the arrest made by the IMPD on Sunday before dawn. Angela Ganote of FOX69 reported the police narrative from the incident, mentioning that the other party involved in the incident was a delivery person who is around 69 years of age.

The other party told the police that he was delivering food, while Mark Sanchez intervened and told him that he wasn’t allowed to park where he was parking. He added that he was followed by Sanchez, who wanted him to move the vehicle immediately. Sanchez allegedly aggravated the issue and started threatening and attacking the delivery person.

He admitted to stabbing Sanchez as a final measure of self-defense as the latter continued to attack him even after being pepper-sprayed in the face. IMPD also noted that the other person had major injuries to his face when they responded on the scene.

In a different tweet, Ganote also reported that while there may have been security cameras in the vicinity with footage of the incident, nothing has been shared by the police officials. The audio files received by TMZ also mentioned that the alley had a few cameras in the vicinity, and the police were requesting the files.

Sanchez was in town to appear on FOX as the analyst for the Sunday afternoon game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders. In light of his hospital admission and the arrest, Sanchez will be replaced by Brady Quinn.
