In Short
  • Jalen Brunson accidentally broke Martha Stewart's toe during a game last year.
  • Brunson apologized to Stewart in person and sent her a basketball afterward.
  • Martha Stewart noted Brunson's "ice cold arms" during their conversation about the incident.

This season, superstar guard Jalen Brunson is busy trying to get his New York Knicks into a position to contend for this season’s NBA championship.

This campaign was touted as champion or bust among New York faithful, as the investments into the team are too good for them not to win the franchise’s first Larry O’Brien Trophy in more than half a decade.

Last year, they had similar pressure, but instead of the players receiving the brunt of it, they let go of longtime head coach Tom Thibodeau after they lost to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals.

In that series, the Pacers exposed the Knicks’ overdependency on certain players, which was a criticism of Thibodeau all season long. After losing the first overtime battle, it all went downhill for them.

Jalen Brunson scored a game-high 43 points, but it was not enough. During his pursuit of winning the game for his team, he managed to deal a major loss to someone else. Not just the Pacers. Rather, it was television personality Martha Stewart.

The 84-year-old appeared on Brunson and Josh Hart‘s podcast, The Roommates Show, to discuss what exactly happened that day. After playing a clip from the Late Night Show with Jimmy Fallon of how the superstar guard accidentally broke her big toe, Hart asked his teammate if he had apologized to her.

He sent me a basketball, too, for my grandson.

Martha Stewart said

As she said this, Jalen Brunson confirmed that he had apologized initially when he and his father met Stewart in the Hamptons, and then he sent the basketball.

Martha Stewart noticed Jalen Brunson had ‘ice cold arms’ during the game

During that conversation about how Jalen Brunson inadvertently managed to break Martha Stewart’s toe, the author of several cookbooks remarked that when the 6’2″ guard landed on her toe, he was also on her lap for a second.

At this point, Stewart grabbed Brunson’s arm, only to notice that it was ice cold, as she remarked both during her interview with Jimmy Fallon, as well as on the Roommates Show.

You don’t sweat… You do? Your arm was cold, though.

Martha Stewart said

The mother of one found it surprising, as a basketball player is generally sweaty from all the shooting and dribbling they do with their arms.

Jalen Brunson did mention that he sweats, but Martha Stewart’s revelation of an ice-cold arm might prompt Knicks fans to believe that it could be an indication of how he has the ability to stay calm in clutch situations.

Martha Stewart finds out Jalen Brunson says a prayer before every game

While talking about how Jalen Brunson and his New York Knicks have fared this season, Martha Stewart remarked that she was back in Madison Square Garden to watch them battle the Washington Wizards.

During the game, she took some pictures of the players, and while she discussed them, she showed the 29-year-old star a picture of him looking on before that game.

Here’s a picture of you, Jalen, that I took. I don’t know what you were doing here. You were thinking about something… Do you pray?

Stewart asked

To this, the three-time All-Star replied:

I did it a little earlier than that. But, yes, I do pray before a game.

Brunson replied

This did not surprise Stewart, as she knows that the former second-round pick is as mature-headed as they come, and some spirituality may have helped him do that.

The businesswoman also mentioned that the Knicks played a ‘violent’ game against the Wizards. That violence is important if they are to avoid getting back into a rut as they did earlier this year.
