If there’s one player that makes Arsenal’s midfield tick, it’s Norwegian maestro Martin Odegaard. The 25-year-old is rarely dropped by Mikel Arteta and is equally important for the national team as well. However, fans woke up to bad news on Tuesday as Odegaard went out injured against Austria.
The Arsenal captain’s injury has put fans on high alert after he needed assistance to leave the pitch. Replays of the incident reveal that the midfielder twisted his left ankle upon impact with an opposition player while competing for the ball. Odegaard instantly jumped in pain before collapsing to the ground.
As per reports, the Arsenal medical team has been in contact with Norway’s camp immediately after the incident. Following the game, Norway head coach Stale Solbakken did not give positive reviews about Odegaard’s injury.
While the team doctor stated that Odegaard has a ‘small’ ankle sprain, the player will be subject to an MRI if a lack of clarity arises. Fans expressed their dismay and disappointment at potentially losing their best player for an important stretch of the season.
Erling Haaland saves the day as Manchester City man scores late to hand Norway the win
Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard have come under significant criticism for being unable to replicate their performances at club level for the national team. However, Haaland finally put an end up the same as he stepped up against Norway to hand his side the win on Monday night. Norway took on Austria at Ullevaal Stadion, only for Odegaard to go out injured early in the second half.
However, Haaland and co. did not let go of the game, eventually finding their feet and the winner in the second half. Without Odegaard, Haaland did well to present himself in the box, controlling a difficult pass and slotting home past Patrick Pentz. What is even more surprising is the fact that Norway enjoyed their first win against their opponents in over two decades.
Following the result, Norway are now second in Group 3 of League B In the Nations League. With the international break coming to a close, players are set to return to their clubs. Manchester City play Brentford, Arsenal and Newcastle United in their next three League games. Haaland is in red-hot form, having scored seven goals in his last five games.
