2017 NASCAR Cup champion Martin Truex Jr. made his final start in the premier stock car racing series as a full-time driver in the season finale at Phoenix Raceway. The 44-year-old ended his illustrious career with 34 race wins, 291 top 10s from 693 starts and two regular season championship, alongside the Bill France Cup.

At the NASCAR Awards last week, which probably would be his last, Martin Truex Jr. talked about the things he will not forget about his two-decade long career in the top tier. He pointed out that the dominant season he had over the years owing to then winning every week, giving everything they have will be something that he will never forget soon.

I’ve been going with all I have for over 20 years, just giving it everything every single day. So, I guess that, just staying around, winning races for over a long period of time, and having a dominant season in Cup Series is something I’ll never forget.

During the same conversation, Martin Truex Jr. also talked about his overall feeling about his career. He has zero regrets about his runs and is happy about how it all turned out. But he does regret him not having as many race wins as his veteran counterparts, but it has more to do with the fact that for over 10 years MTJ drove for mid-table teams with no fair shot at wins.

The ex-TRD driver is known for his obsession with the outdoor life, and he is looking forward to enjoying this life without NASCAR commitments. He is looking forward to hunt and fish, enjoying the life. MTJ added that he will still keep an eye on racing but won’t be as close as he used to be.

I’m not sure yet. Hunt and fish. Enjoy life. I’m sure I’ll watch some racing still, probably won’t be as closely interested in it as I am now. But I don’t know. We’ll see. Time will tell.

Martin Truex Jr. said.

Many in the racing community including the close friends of MTJ expects the veteran to go off the grid and enjoy the outdoor life and sees him having less connection with the sport. It will be interesting to see how Martin Truex Jr.’s life would playout.
