Manchester City find themselves in a difficult spot following the unfortunate injury of star man Rodri. The midfielder picked up an ACL injury against Arsenal which ruled him out for the rest of the season. That being said, the club have started looking for replacements for the player, and their latest target is sure to ring a bell for Liverpool supporters.

Martin Zubimendi headlined Liverpool Football Club‘s pursuit for a new midfielder during the summer transfer window. Despite the club’s best efforts, the Real Sociedad player stuck to his club even though Liverpool were willing to pay his €60 million release clause. Even though signing him in the next summer transfer window is a priority, the club haven’t ruled out making a move for him in January.

Having ‘rejected’ Liverpool earlier, City are now at a clear advantage to secure Zubimendi’s services. The 25-year-old is yet to sign a new contract with Sociedad and City are more than willing to match his release clause.

It is no secret that Pep Guardiola‘s future at Manchester City is uncertain. A few months ago, social media broke into discussion when rumors broke about the City boss being shortlisted for the Three Lions’ job. In a recent interview, the former Manchester United man made his feelings clear on why he wouldn’t be a good fit for the national team.

The FA has been building the pathway for these young players over the last ten years, so I’d be surprised if someone like a Pep Guardiola or a Jurgen Klopp who will want their own way.

The former England international also stated that Gareth Southgate was appointed for this same reason so that they could enjoy a bit of control over what happens in the first-team. Guardiola himself has denied the possibility of him taking the England job in the past. There are also rumors that Lee Carsley may be appointed permanently in light of the team’s recent results.
