UFC Vegas 23 (Main Event) : Grapple-heavy Marvin Vettori beats Kevin Holland via. unanimous decision

The main event saw the ‘Italian Dream’ Marvin Vettori take on Kevin Holland. Marvin Vettori was looking to getting back into the top 5 of the middleweight rankings. He was initially scheduled to take on Darren Till, but the Englishman pulled out of the fight due to a collarbone injury, and hence Kevin Holland took the fight on short notice.

Round 1 :
A lot of low kicks from Kevin Holland began the fight. Then there was a delay after a low blow from Kevin Holland. After a warning from Herb Dean the fight resumed. Kevin Holland kept him at bay. He clipped him with a right hand. Then they traded blows. Holland struck a knee which didn’t connect well. Kevin kept throwing kicks.
Then the action shifted to the cageside, as Vettori attempted a takedown. The fight moved to the middle for a while, before once again moving to the cageside, as Vettori executed a takedown, with full guard, just moments later. With Vettori going for the ground and pound, Holland cheekily escaped from the takedown. Once they got up, Holland was caught by a big hand from Vettori, as he ate it. The round ended. 10-9 Vettori
Round 2 :
Kevin Holland once again began aggressively. He then clipped Vettori with a big right hand. But once again Vettori took the fight to the ground, as Holland struggled to evade the Italian from doing so. With Holland on the ground, Marvin executed the ground and pound.
Plenty of ground control time for the Italian. With Holland on the ground, Vettori then landed a massive fist to Holland’s head. Towards the end of the round, as Holland tried to evade the grasp of Vettori, the Italian once again took him to the ground and landed massive ground strikes. Holland’s right eye was badly hurt. 10-9 Vettori

Round 3 :
No sooner did the round begin, than Vettori went for the takedown. That was his 4th takedown. The Italian then went full mount. Marvin Vettori then set up an arm triangle. He tightened it. Holland somehow managed to get out of it. Holland struggled with a badly hurt right eye. The fight then got back to the middle of the ring for a while, as Holland tried to get something out of the fight. Vettori once again took him to the ground. However, towards the end of the round, Kevin Holland landed a few clean strikes. Vettori’s mouthpiece went flying. 10-9 Vettori
Round 4 :
A big early strike from Vettori. Holland then let his offense go, as he landed a few good strikes. Vettori, then went right away back to his wrestling and took Holland to the mat. Vettori got back to his full mount, and then went for ground and pound. Holland got back to his feet after a while, only to be dragged back to the ground. Vettori on a staggering 8 takedowns! Vettori then landed a lot of ground strikes. Holland tried his best to get back to his feet, but of no avail. 10-9 Vettori
Round 5 :
Holland began the round brilliantly as he hurt Vettori with a huge right hand. But the brilliant Vettori once again took the fight to the ground. He then began his ground and pound, as usual. Holland tried to get up just like in the early rounds, but his poor takedown defense meant that he went back to the ground once again. Holland got back to his feet for a while, only to be taken down for the eleventh time. A middleweight record. 10-9 Vettori
Winner : Marvin Vettori def. Kevin Holland via. unanimous decision (50-44 x3)
