Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim provided a rather blunt update on midfielder Mason Mount‘s injury. The update came ahead of their Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham. The 25-year-old will remain sidelined for the Spurs’ clash, due to an injury in his leg. Mount, who has not enjoyed his best of the time at Manchester United, has hit another roadblock.

The midfielder limped off the pitch just 12 minutes after the start of the match against Manchester City. He was then replaced by Kobbie Mainoo, as the Red Devils went on to win 2-1. Mount has already spent much of his time on the sidelines this season, making just 12 appearances. He had missed eight matches in the months of September and October, owing to persistent hamstring issues.

The boss revealed that the 25-year-old has remained sad, and also pointed to the busy football schedule as a reason for his injury. Moreover, Amorim also hinted that Marcus Rashford might feature against Tottenham despite the forward’s recent admission that he is ready for a ‘new challenge’

He is out, still injured. In the dressing room he was really, really sad so we need to help him. When player is in this moment with a lot of injuries and with this schedule, it’s really hard.

The 21-year-old midfielder’s contract with the German giants ends in the next 18 months. He is yet to sign a contract extension, as talks have stalled between Musiala’s agents and the club. Speaking in a recent interview, the German stated that he won’t give the fans a Christmas present, hinting at his inability to sign a new contract this year. However, he clarified his ambition of leaving a mark in Germany.

Unfortunately I can’t give the fans a Christmas present. There won’t be any news in the near future.
