A massive street fight broke out between English and German fans, following the host nation’s outrageous quarter-final defeat to Spain. Clashes erupted on the streets of Dusseldorf, after a few Three Lions’ fans started chanting ‘Germany’s going home.’
The German side fell to a dramatic 2-1 defeat against Spain in Stuttgart, shattering their hopes of winning the Euro 2024 trophy. Dani Olmo starred in the match, giving the Spaniards an early second-half lead. Despite Florian Wirtz‘s last-minute equalizer, the Germans fell to an extra-time goal from Mikel Merino. This occurred just a day before England’s quarter-final clash against Switzerland in Dusseldorf for a spot in the semi-finals.
Recent videos emerged showing England supporters mocking and instigating conflict with German fans on the streets of Dusseldorf after the match. The Three Lions fans were chanting ‘Germany’s going home’ and ‘La Viva Espanol.’ The situation escalated further when cans were thrown by the English group, triggering a brief brawl. The physical altercation involved thrown drinks, punches, and kicks before being intervened by bystanders and riot police.

Additionally, there were reports of violent outbreaks continuing to erupt throughout the night in other parts of Dusseldorf. The Altstadt area remained particularly tense, ahead of the Three Lions quarter-finals clash against Switzerland.
England could start with a ‘back three’ against Switzerland in the quarter-finals
English manager Gareth Southgate could opt for a ‘back three’ line of defense against Switzerland at the Euros 2024. This could mark a shift from the existing four-man defense, that the manager has preferred so far.
England’s performance at the Euros has been criticized for not meeting the expectations of being favorites to win the title. Due to poor defensive displays, suspensions, and the need to counter Switzerland’s tactics, Southgate may consider using a back-three formation. The last time the team played with three center-backs was during the 2018 World Cup.
The manager might start Kyle Walker on the right side of the defense, John Stones in the center, and Marc Guehi on the left. Other defensive options include Lewis Dunk, Ezri Konsa, and Joe Gomez.
