The year end ATP Finals has become one of the most important tournament on the ATP calendar. It is probably the biggest tournament after the majors and features 8 of the best players of the season. The first edition of the ATP Finals was played 51 years in 1970 at Tokyo where Stan Smith defeated Rod Laver to win the inaugural title. At that time, the tournament was called the Masters Grand Prix.
Since then, many legends of the game like John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Ivan Lendl and Boris Becker have won the prestigious title. Since 1990, the tournament was called the ATP Tour World Championships. For the next 10 years till 1999, the tournament was called the same with Pete Sampras winning 5 titles. The tournament was then called the Tennis Masters Cup and was once again changed to ATP World Tour Finals in 2009. Last, since 2017, the tournament is simple called the ATP Finals.
Swiss maestro Roger Federer is the most successful player in the tournament history with 6 titles to his name. He is followed by Novak Djokovic, Pete Sampras and Ivan Lendl with 5 titles each.

Now, a new book has been released which elaborates the tournament’s 51-year old long history. Coveted journalists Vincenzo Martucci and Luca Marianantoni, have contributed towards this book and have included some never heard before stories about the best players in the world over the years.
The book is a collaborative world between Giunti and the Italian Tennis Federation and provides more than 400 images and a substantial collection of statistical data. The book is in Italian and its translated version could be ordered from here.
