‘DC was kind of in his favor, rooting for him’ – Matheus Nicolau criticizes Daniel Cormier’s biased commentary during his fight against Manel Kape

UFC Vegas 21 was quite a controversial one. From the main event ending prematurely due to an accidental eye-poke, Eryk Anders’s illegal knee to Matheus Nicolau’s split decision victory, it had it all. Matheus Nicolau made his return to the UFC, after almost two years of inactivity, having last fought in Brave CF, in August 2019. He beat Manel Kape via split decision, winning the 1st and the 3rd round.

However, the reactions on social media were quite different, as a lot of people felt that the third round, should have gone Kape’s way. Speaking about this in an interview with MMA Fighting, Nicolau blamed it on Daniel Cormier’s biased commentary for the social media reactions which stated Kape as the winner of the third round. Nicolau claimed that he had watched his fight several times, and was certain that he (Nicolau) had won the third round.

I think it was a little contradictory

Matheus Nicolau was quoted as saying, “The third round, if you watch it, I beat him for four minutes and he landed two good knees in the end of the round, and I took them well, and then I landed a spinning elbow. Watching the third round all five times, it’s pretty clear I won, man. He wasn’t landing anything, I was landing, in and out, scoring well and hurting him. I kicked his leg and he went down, I landed several punches to the body, many crosses to the head.”

Speaking about Daniel Cormier’s ‘biased’ commentary, “‘DC’ is from his team, and it seemed cleared to me that he was kind of in his favor, rooting for him. Man, I beat him for four minutes, they said that during the commentary, ‘Matheus is landing, he came better in round three,’ and then, with a minute left, they start saying the fight is wide open. It makes no sense based on their own commentary, I think it was a little contradictory.”

Daniel Cormier and the rest of the commentary panel, have been getting flak of late. They were criticized for their biased commentary for the Israel Adesanya vs Jan Blachowicz title fight recently as well. What are your thoughts on this?
