Former World No. 1 Mats Wilander shared his thoughts on Novak Djokovic’s decision to hire Andy Murray as his new coach. Wilander believes this move sends “a strong message” to Djokovic’s top rivals, including Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.
Djokovic surprised the tennis world by announcing the partnership in a video on social media. Murray will join Djokovic’s team ahead of the 2025 Australian Open. The news has created excitement among fans and experts alike.
For all tennis fans, it’s obvious that we would like to see him win 25 Grand Slam titles and be considered the best of all time. With Andy Murray’s help, I think he believes he can still win Grand Slams in 2025, and maybe even 2026. I think the message Novak is sending is that he thinks he still has some of his best tennis in him, or he thinks his best tennis is still ahead of him. That’s a strong message to Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and the best players in the world.

Murray also spoke about the new role, saying he is thrilled to work with Djokovic. He will help the Serbian star prepare during the off-season. The three-time Grand Slam champion added that he looks forward to being on the “same side of the net” as Djokovic and helping him achieve his goals.
Novak Djokovic to headline exhibition match with Juan Martin del Potro in December
Novak Djokovic will play a farewell exhibition match with Juan Martin del Potro. Del Potro has admitted he feels “terrible” about retiring from tennis two years ago. The match will be a special moment for the former US Open champion.
Del Potro’s last official match was at the 2022 Argentina Open, where he faced Federico Delbonis. The event in Buenos Aires was filled with emotion as fans said goodbye to the former World No. 3. His career was affected by repeated injuries that required multiple surgeries.
The Argentine’s struggles began in 2019 when he injured his right knee after slipping at Queen’s Club. This happened a year after he won his only Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells. Despite his efforts, the injury ultimately ended his career.
Del Potro had four surgeries on his right knee between 2019 and 2021. He played his final tournament in 2022 but later revealed he secretly had two more surgeries, hoping to return. Unfortunately, the attempts were unsuccessful, and his comeback did not happen.
