When tennis great Mats Wilander compared Novak Djokovic to Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, he didn’t see any weakness in the Serb’s game. Wilander, a seven-time Grand Slam singles champion, pointed out that when Djokovic came on the circuit, no one knew back then that he would lift 24 Grand Slam titles one day.

Wilander however said that when Nadal and Federer started playing everybody saw that they would become greats of the game. The 59-year-old believes tennis players want to play like these two players because of their technique but observed that Djokovic plays like any other pros but what keeps him apart from other players is that he has mastered all the techniques.

What we didn't realize is that there were no weaknesses anywhere in his game on any surface. I think it took a while for everybody to understand that he doesn't have weaknesses. Federer has a weakness. Nadal has weaknesses. Djokovic doesn't really have a weakness.
Mats Wilander told Eurosport

Djokovic is at Wimbledon, which starts next week. Nadal will miss it as he doesn’t have the form and fitness to play on grass and switch to clay at the Paris Olympics. Federer, on the other hand, retired in September 2022 after his doubles Laver Cup match with Nadal.

Mats Wilander expresses surprise over Novak Djokovic’s Wimbledon preparations

Novak Djokovic hasn’t yet made any announcements regarding his Wimbledon participation, but he has started training for it just a few weeks after his knee operation. Wimbledon draws, however, has his name even though he said in an interview this month that he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of not playing at the SW19. Mats Wilander told Eurosport that he was surprised to see Djokovic land in England to train and thought the 37-year-old would rather reach Paris for the Olympics directly after the surgery.

It's so surprising to see Novak, obviously, in London, just a few days before Wimbledon, not knowing if he's going to play. But that's the greatness of Novak: he's not looking at the No. 1 spot in the world rankings, he's not looking to win the most Grand Slam titles, he's looking at the day-to-day situation.
Mats Wilander said

Djokovic is set to play Vit Kopriva in the first round on July 1. He will strive to win the tournament and if he is successful, it will be his first trophy of the season.

In case you missed!
