Former World No. 1 Mats Wilander has been a constant cheerleader for Carlos Alcaraz. He has always heaped praise on the Spaniard for his special talent and skills and has been a fan of his tennis. Now that Alcaraz is climbing the ladder of success, Wilander has stated that the 21-year-old needs to continue loving the sport like a kid.

The Swedish expert has also urged everyone to come together to help Alcaraz not deviate from his love for the sport while trying to fulfill his ambitions. Wilander feels that the youngster must be focused on the present and not think too far ahead of himself.

For that, Wilander believes people around him also should not ask him about how many Grand Slam titles he wants to win but instead keep the focus on his game and how he is playing.

Carlos has already achieved the highest goals. It doesn't make much sense to talk to him in terms of goals. That's why he absolutely has to stay in the present and not project himself. That could make him dizzy. It's also the responsibility of the tennis world to leave him in that state. To talk to him about his fantastic victory today, or his fabulous drop shot on a break point, not about his ability to reach the 30 Grand Slam titles mark.

With the French Open and Wimbledon titles secured, Alcaraz will next turn his attention to the Paris Olympics, where he will be hoping to win gold for Spain.

Carlos Alcaraz needs to be a kid to win more

Mats Wilander recalled his playing days and how he felt like a 10-year-old when he first became the World No. 1. He hopes Carlos Alcaraz maintains his enthusiasm and doesn’t get satisfied with his achievements.

We have to help him stay as fresh as possible, to always love tennis like a kid. It won't be easy. When I became world No. 1 in 1988, I was 24. But I felt like I was ten years older… Carlos is so exciting that I really hope he doesn't have to go through that

Alcaraz has won four Grand Slam titles across all three surfaces. Only the Australian Open has eluded him so far. However, despite these achievements, he does not consider himself to be a champion and remains determined to achieve more. He has stated that he wants to be one of the best players in the history of the sport and wants to sit at the same table as other superstars.
