Matt Cardona succumbed to a tough loss against Randy Orton on SmackDown this past Friday night in Pittsburgh.

Matt Cardona bit off more than he could chew as he picked up a fight with Randy Orton with a damaged left wrist. It ultimately made him pay. The sadistic nature of Orton that’s made its return in recent weeks was enough to rub salt in Cardona’s wounds.
‘The Viper’ constantly targeted The Indy God’s left arm that Orton Pillmanized a couple of weeks back. The 14-time world champion bent Cardona’s fingers backwards in a remorseless display that saw the erstwhile Zack Ryder writhing in agony. Orton even ran his opponent’s already injured shoulder into the steel ringpost multiple times.
And it took only one RKO for the St. Louis-born wrestler to pick up the win over a man who claims he’s not finished. The latter took to X after SmackDown to reflect on everything that went down with him during the show. Cardona started off by reminding the fans how Orton almost broke his left arm after faking an apology to him.
Last night I was in the main event of #SmackDown…@RandyOrton injured my arm last week. I didn’t want to fight Randy last night to win. I was fighting to show Randy that he can’t just go around and do whatever he wants and expect to get away with it. I was at a disadvantage,… pic.twitter.com/Lfmmr30TDR

Speaking of why he still decided to have a match with Orton, Cardona stressed that he wanted to show the ‘Apex Predator’ that his actions wouldn’t be condoned on his watch. Even though Cardona was banged up, he didn’t use it as an excuse to justify why he bit the dust against Orton. ‘The Long Island Ice-Z’ revealed that he was originally set to be at the Squared Circle Expo on the eve of SmackDown.
Matt Cardona then regurgitated his 6-year absence from WWE and the hustle that got him back there. That being said, he main evented SmackDown this past Friday against a 14-time world champion that’s about to headline WrestleMania with Cody Rhodes. Despite ending up losing, Cardona said he’d take it as a win. He capped off his post by affirming that he’s not finished.
What happened after Randy Orton decimated Matt Cardona on SmackDown?
Right after Randy Orton dispatched Matt Cardona on SmackDown, the cameras panned to backstage, where Cody Rhodes came out of his tour bus with a stern look on his face. ‘The American Nightmare’ made the long walk out to the ring, where Orton was awaiting his arrival. A couple of security guards had popped up in front of ‘The Viper’, and he took them out without breaking a sweat.

Once Rhodes made his entrance without indulging the crowd this time around, GM Nick Aldis had arrived with security to hold Rhodes back. ‘The QB1’ was in no mood to listen to any wisdom that Aldis tried imparting on him. The former AEW EVP wanted revenge after being brutalized by his ex-best friend just after they signed the contract for their WrestleMania 42 match two weeks ago.
Rhodes and Orton eventually got into a brawl in which the Undisputed WWE Champion got the initial upper hand on his mentor by throwing punches at him. Without much surprise, heavy security was deployed at ringside to diffuse the situation at periodic intervals. Both Orton and Rhodes broke free on numerous occasions despite being held back by security guards.
Right at the end, Jelly Roll also came out to play peacemaker between two men who used to be the best of friends in this business. The singer-songwriter, however, got dropped with an RKO from Randy Orton.
As soon as ‘The Legend Killer’ struck Roll with his best shot, the 45-year-old wrestling great quickly retreated from risking it any further. Orton had a laugh about it as he was walking up that ramp. The fans found it quite reminiscent of ’09 Orton.
