The John Cena WWE farewell tour has come down to its last two stops. A year-long stretch that began with the Netflix premiere of Raw has almost run its course. Cena is slated for his next appearance later this month at Survivor Series, where he will defend the Intercontinental Championship against Dominik Mysterio.
No matter if the Hollywood mogul ends up losing the title or not, he would be due for his wrestling swansong on December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Having said that, it was high time an industry veteran spoke highly about the run Cena is on, which has mostly been criticized for not having a clear direction from the get-go. But Matt Hardy believes it’s pitch-perfect at the moment.
I wasn’t a huge fan of was the Brock thing, just him going out and getting dominated…I’m a guy who thinks about pro wrestling in terms of emotions… What they’re doing with Cena right now is pitch perfect, I think, because it really is looping in to everyone’s feels and everyone’s emotions……

On his The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, the current TNA star admitted that he wasn’t a fan of the stuff WWE made Cena do with Brock Lesnar. The Hardy Boyz member explained that having Lesnar squash Cena at Wrestlepalooza was uncalled for, especially when there was going to be no payoff to it.

Hardy emphasized that he’s someone who thinks about pro wrestling quite emotionally, and The Beast’s thumping of ‘The Cenation Leader’ turned the fanbase off. However, the ‘Sensei of Mattitude’ stated that things are pitch-perfect with the 17-time world champion right now.
Why so? It’s because what Cena has done on television since the Lesnar feud has taken over the stage, with people being satisfied with his performances after the debut ESPN PLE disaster. Hardy’s assessment isn’t hyperbole at all.
In fact, it’s objectively true considering that ‘The Franchise Player’ got to wrestle AJ Styles in one of the most entertaining matches all year. The Peacemaker star then won the Intercontinental Championship in his hometown of Boston to complete the career grand slam in WWE.
Why Matt Hardy wants John Cena to retain over Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series?
This past Monday, Dominik Mysterio once again interrupted John Cena in his last Raw appearance. Not only did Cena agree to put his title on the line against Mysterio at Survivor Series, but the 48-year-old also had a match in its aftermath.

After getting outnumbered by Mysterio’s Judgment Day stablemates, Sheamus and Rey Mysterio arrived to John Cena’s aid, and they eventually won a 6-man tag team showdown against Dominik Mysterio, Finn Balor, and JD McDonagh. This weekend in San Diego, ‘Dirty Dom’ will look to leave no stone unturned trying to regain gold from Cena.
Matt Hardy, however, thinks that ‘The Cenation Leader’ should retain. In an excerpt from the aforementioned podcast, Hardy stressed that WWE should ideally let Cena do everything in his power to make Mysterio look like even a bigger star coming out of that match. ‘The Angelic Diablo’ said that Cena’s entering his last match as the Intercontinental Champion would be an intriguing scenario.
A tournament is ongoing to determine his last opponent, which, as per reports, could be Gunther. WWE had long penciled ‘The Ring General’ as one of the opponents for Cena in his farewell tour. The Austrian has already retired Goldberg earlier this year. It appears that the former Imperium leader is well on his way to registering his name in the history books for being the one to retire John Cena as well.
