‘They will no longer dominate in the Grand Slams,’ Matteo Berrettini on the Big 3

‘They will no longer dominate in the Grand Slams,’ Matteo Berrettini on the Big 3

Without a doubt, the Big 3 have ruled the tennis world for most of the 21st century. Such has been their impact that fans usually ask this question as to who would carry forward their legacy. The trio also happen to be the most successful grand slam winners in Men’s singles. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are tied with 20 majors while Novak Djokovic has won 18.

But with age, we have seen a dip in the Big 3’s form. Federer is 39-year old, Nadal 34 and Djokovic is 33. Roger Federer has only played one tournament in 15 months due to injury concerns. And his compatriots, both Djokovic and Nadal lost in the Monte Carlo Masters in the early stages of the tournament last week.

Such is their dominance and stature, that whenever they lose, especially in the early rounds, it becomes the talk of the tennis world. But still, defeating the Big 2 at grand slams is the real deal and not many have cracked that code.

Recently, Italian World No.10 Matteo Berrettini expressed that the Big 3 won’t dominate at the grand slams anymore and he is motivated by the younger players getting big results.

“The Big Three will no longer dominate in the Grand Slams,” the Italian said. “Something is gonna change. To see the younger guys getting big results motivates me, I want to play at their level.”

Berrettini is now in Belgrade to play the Serbia Open. He is the second seed of the tournament and will challenge Novak Djokovic for the title.
