Brad Marchand has once again stirred the NHL world with his playstyle, the most recent being in the game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Boston Bruins are currently leading their rivals with a 2-1 score following Marchand’s 3rd-period goals on Wednesday night.

Unfortunately for the Leafs, Marchand remained a pest to their side very much true to his character. Over the course of his time in the NHL, he has developed unique skills to get under his opponent’s skin whether it be a regular season game or the playoffs.

Following their latest faceoff, Leafs forward Matthew Knies gave some advice on how to ignore Marchand’s approaches and his threats. The first and foremost point would be to not get influenced by Marchan’s “bullsh*t” and continue playing in their own style.

Knies talked about how he may be trying to rattle his opponents to get a call out from the on-ice officials for penalty minutes. Many players so far have fallen victim to his tricks, while the Bruins enjoyed a smooth ride.

He wants to get under our skin and influence the refs, so I think we've just got to be composed and not kind of get into that bullshit. Just play hard and make him (less) effective.

On the other hand, Brad Marchand expressed how excited he is to play in the playoffs as it’s “not a given that you get the opportunity to play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.” He further added how he believes it to be a “gift to play in this league” and he teaches the same morals to his kids too.

Wayne Gretzky praises Brad Marchand’s leadership

While many may not like the ‘Rat’ Brad Marchand, NHL legend Wayne Gretzky has a different take on him. Gretzky recently praised Marchand and how he’s led the team so far in the playoffs and in the regular season games.

In a TNT segment on Thursday, Gretzky shared an untold story about Marchand revealing how much he cares for the Bruins and how he’s trying his best as the new captain. Gretzky talked about Marchand staying in the rookies training camp for five days and taught them what it means to be a pro and a Bruin player.

That’s the sign of a great captain. And he’s; his leadership is untouched; he’s just a tremendous, tremendous athlete. And listen, he’s a pain in the b*** to play against; I’d hate to play against them.

For Gretzky, that’s all he needed to hear to see how he’s doing as an NHL team captain. While many had doubts about his captaincy role, Marchand as of now has scored many points both on and off the ice to validate his efforts as the Boston Bruins leader.
