There aren’t many things that light up an NFL quarterback in the film room, but when he knows he has the privilege of throwing the ball to one of the greatest route runners in the history of the game, that is a reason good enough to be excited about. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has had the privilege of playing alongside some elite receivers.
Back in Detroit, Stafford played alongside Calvin ‘Megatron’ Johnson, an absolute freak of nature who could catch the ball irrespective of how many defenders he had on him. Then in Los Angeles, he played with Cooper Kupp and played a role in the wideout’s 1,947 receiving yard season.
In the last two years, Matthew Stafford got an opportunity to play with rookie Puka Nacua, an elite receiver, but even in his wildest dreams, he could not have imagined that things would get better for him.
Stafford now has Davante Adams on his team. The loss of Cooper Kupp hurts less as Adams is an anomaly.
In the Rams’ first film session with their newest receiver, head coach Sean McVay had a unique way of welcoming Davante Adams. He played a highlight of Adams from his time with the Green Bay Packers, where the wideout’s impeccable route-running skills and balance are on full display.
The highlight was phenomenal, but more interesting was how Stafford reacted to it. The quarterback was all smiles as he saw the highlight, and after he witnessed Adams make a ridiculous sideline catch, he was baffled. Stafford, who was leaning back, got so excited at the highlight that he sat upright, and his eyes lit up. Fortunately, he’s going to be doing that more often this season with Adams in his corner.

Sean McVay deserves some credit here. This is an interesting way to introduce a new player, and even though everyone in the Rams facility is familiar with Davante Adams’ capabilities, the highlight was a refreshing reminder of what he brings to the team.
With the addition of Davante Adams, the Rams now have the best receiver corps in the NFC West
Davante Adams has had a rough few years since he departed from Green Bay. His time with the Las Vegas Raiders proved to be disappointing after his recently retired friend Derek Carr was traded in 2023. He reunited with Aaron Rodgers in New York last season, halfway through the year, but the duo failed to replicate the success they had achieved in Green Bay.

Tae Adams then signed a two-year, $46 million deal with the Rams to return to California. He is in an environment where he can thrive alongside Puka Nacua, forming the best offensive core in the NFC West. The question is just how far this team can make it this year? The Rams are a franchise that cannot be overlooked; they have all the right pieces and know how to utilize them well.
The Rams understand that, as Matthew Stafford nears the age of 40, they can get two more good seasons out of him. The same is the case with Adams, who is set to turn 33 this year. While his output has decreased, it is only due to the tumultuous situations he found himself in.
Despite playing on two different teams in 2024, Adams still managed to end the year with 1,000+ receiving yards. The wideout is still an elite route-runner who can contribute positively to an offense. It will be interesting to see if the new-look Rams will live up to the hype or falter come playoff time.
