With the NFL Combine in sessions, teams should generally be interested in the players showing up to build their draft stock. Instead, the focus of many QB needy teams was on Matthew Stafford and his potential exit from the Los Angeles Rams.

Once he decided he will return to play football, the Rams seemingly allowed teams to contact their QB and his agent. Stafford was looking forward to land a revised contract that would pay him $50 million a season. That did not make sense to the Los Angeles Rams.

QB needy teams with cap space would not mind that figure. That is where the New York Giants, along with the Las Vegas Raiders, were touted as possible destinations. The latter came to the forefront when minority owner Tom Brady apparently ran into Matthew Stafford at a ski resort.

The prospect of moving to Las Vegas was intriguing as it was only a few hours away from their current home. However, the QB knows the best bet is for him to stay at his current workplace. Earlier today, Adam Schefter delivered the latest update.

LA’s quarterback is back: the Rams and Matthew Stafford reached agreement today on a restructured deal that keeps him in Los Angeles and quashes any and all trade speculation, per sources.

Adam Schefter wrote

This ends speculation that the 37-year-old Super Bowl champion QB was willing to move. This also means that some of those teams are out of the running and will now have to look elsewhere. That could be at the draft or could be at other veteran free agent QBs.

Fans shake their heads at teams losing out on Matthew Stafford

NFL fans were looking at a possible sweepstake where Matthew Stafford was going to call the shots. He knew teams needed him and could have landed a sizeable paycheck with his career winding down. But now that he is off the market, those teams will be scrambling for a solution.

Fans know the likes of the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants now have to rethink their strategy. With their efforts focused on how to stop another horrible losing season, fans had a feast day talking about their missed opportunity.

The Las Vegas Raiders pick at No. 6 and the New York Giants at No. 3. Both know there is a chance team(s) ahead of them will pick one of their desired QBs in this year’s draft. This puts them in a spot as neither has a good enough backup to depend on.

Pete Carroll might not lose his job as Tom Brady was instrumental in bringing him in and will start building a winning culture. But the same cannot be said about Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen. They are already on the ropes after another horrific season.
