Kelly Stafford recently reflected on the challenging period she faced during her husband Matthew Stafford’s uncertain future with the Los Angeles Rams. The quarterback, who took the Rams to a Super Bowl three years was on the verge of being traded before restructuring a deal that kept in LA for a year more.

On the March 6 episode of The Morning After podcast, Kelly opened up about the emotional toll it took on her while Matthew explored potential opportunities with other NFL teams. During the three weeks, Matthew, 37, was considering offers from different franchises, Kelly admitted that the uncertainty was difficult to process.

Kelly Stafford admitted her husband handled the situation with ease while she struggled with the uncertain times.

He’s [Stafford] very good at compartmentalizing everything. Me, on the other hand, when he says you think about the uncertainty all the time you go crazy, I went f—— mad, I went so crazy.

Matthew, who was traded by the Detroit Lions to the Rams in 2021, was permitted by the franchise in February to discuss potential deals with other teams. Reports indicated that the New York Giants were among the teams interested, offering a contract reportedly between $90 million to $100 million. However, Matthew ultimately chose to remain with the Rams.

Despite the pressure, Kelly deeply appreciated Rams head coach Sean McVay, acknowledging his supportive role throughout the process. “I just felt like he wanted to make sure that everything was good for everybody and I was grateful for that,” she noted in the podcast.

Kelly also emphasized her commitment to her husband’s career, noting that her primary focus was ensuring he made the best decision for his legacy. “At the end of the day, what I want is what’s best for you… this is his legacy,” she stated. Her concern also extended to their family, as the possibility of relocating weighed heavily on her mind.

Matthew Stafford had his mind clear during the uncertain times

In the same episode of The Morning After podcast, the 37-year-old Matthew Stafford discussed the process of re-signing with his team and how communication with head coach Sean McVay played a pivotal role in his decision. Something his wife also iterated in her segment.

During the conversation with his wife, Matthew acknowledged that the uncertainty was difficult but expressed gratitude for McVay’s consistent communication.

I think that is what Sean wanted, was to make sure we communicate, and I communicated with Sean, you know, throughout the entire process. Obviously, you know, a little bit of a unique situation, but I think, I know he wanted me to end up here, and I wanted to end up here, and so we got there and that’s the biggest plus in the whole thing.

The veteran quarterback admitted that the three-week stretch of exploring other offers was not easy. However, he focused on maintaining a clear mindset by dedicating his time to activities like golf and working out.

Those three weeks of uncertainty were definitely not funBut I did my best to stay busy and not let my mind run wild thinking about it all day.
