“I’m more mature and experienced in terms of my decision making and captaincy skills”, – Shreyas Iyer said during his first interview with KKR

Kolkata Knight Riders chose Shreyas Iyer as their new captain on February 16. KKR released Eoin Morgan to buy Iyer for Rs 12.25 crore from the auction in Bengaluru ahead of the IPL 2022 season.
The KKR franchise interviewed Iyer for the first time as its captain. When he was asked about the auction, Iyer said his heartbeat was pumping and that he couldn’t able to control his emotions while watching KKR bid for him from the very start. He said it was amazing after the Knight Riders signed him.
To the question of his expectations at KKR, Iyer said that he is a player’s captain and wants to create an atmosphere where all players will think about winning.
“Coming into KKR now, obviously I would be having a different mindset. I’m more mature and experienced in terms of my decision making and captaincy skills.” Iyer said further.
Brendon McCullum was excited to have Shreyas Iyer at KKR

On behalf of Iyer, team coach Brendon McCullum said, “I am very excited to have one of the India’s brightest future leaders in Shreyas Iyer, take the reins at KKR. I have enjoyed Shreyas’ game and his captaincy skills from afar and now will look forward to working closely with him to drive forward the success and style of play we want at KKR.”
When asked about Brendon McCullum he said, “He was someone who was very aggressive and he’s kind of a risk-taker and I love that!”
Iyer’s message for the KKR fans: “I am really looking forward to be on the ground, this time representing KKR because I’ve always been on the opposite and I could feel the crowd cheering for their team. So, this time when I would represent you guys, I hope that you guys are in the stadiums and cheer for us. I’m really looking forward for that excitement and see to it at the end of the day we win the championship. Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo.”
During his captaincy stint with the Delhi Capitals, Iyer had led the team to reach its maiden final in 2020. But an injury forced him out of the initial phase of IPL 2021, which saw Rishabh Pant lead the Delhi-based club. He wasn’t retained by the Delhi Capitals ahead of this year’s auction.
