After a shaky phase for the US Men’s National soccer team, the management decided to vest their faith in a tested campaigner in the form of Mauricio Pochettino. He has formerly been a part of formidable forces in the form of Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea. His impressive legacy made the US soccer team authority take a call, which was necessary.
In his first presser as the coach of the USA men’s team, Mauricio Pochettino sparked a fancy statement, where he mentioned eyeing the crown of the world. As USA will be one of the hosts of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico, Pochettino made it very clear that he and his boys will be dreaming big. Moreover, the Argentine preceptor made it clear that they would try and replicate what the women had pulled off in the world football circuit.
We need to believe in big things that we can win, not only a game but the World Cup. If we don’t, the journey will be difficult. We have to think big. That is the only way to put your talent in the service of the team. It is a massive challenge.Mauricio Pochettino in his first media conference after taking over the USA men’s soccer team
Pochettino’s first assignment will be an international friendly against Panama, which will be played at the Q2 Stadium in Austin on October 12th. Additionally, the opening chapter of Pochettino’s coaching journey with the USA team can be special because that will be a chance for them to avenge their earlier defeat in the Copa America group stages.
Here is what X had to say about Mauricio Pochettino’s statement about winning the World Cup
Pochettino’s statement at the press conference didn’t really sit well with the fans, as they found it to be exceedingly dreamy. Many fans pointed out that he was not talking about reality, as taking charge of an international team isn’t exactly an easier task than club football. Also, his statement about the World Cup was underlined as dodgy.

Fans pointed out that the best teams in the world are going to be a part of the tournament, and more importantly, instead of 32 teams, there will be 48 teams. USA’s ongoing run in the international football circuit has been a roller-coaster one. After losing to Canada in what was a slender defeat, they had another long-standing historic feat of staying unbeaten for 67 years getting dumped out of the window.
The future of Mauricio Pochettino will be answered in time. However, unless USA gets their shooting form fixed, it can only turn worse for them from where they are. Furthermore, their current form will keep on raising questions until the top players in the side find their goal-scoring instincts again.
