Ex-Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has surprisingly been linked with a return to the EPL, with Newcastle interested in appointing him. The Argentinean could take over from current manager Eddie Howe, in case he departs to manage England.

Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea decided to part ways after the end of the 2023-24 season, owing to major differences over strategy and squad management with Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, Chelsea’s two sporting directors. The Blues finished a disappointing sixth in the EPL last season, barely securing a spot in European football. In addition to this, the Argentine manager previously managed PSG, Tottenham, and Southampton.

Following Gareth Southgate‘s resignation after England’s Euro 2024 disappointment, Eddie Howe has emerged as a top candidate for the job. However, the former Bournemouth manager has not yet decided on his future. The club management has identified Pochettino as a replacement, signaling his swift return to the league. Additionally, Newcastle sporting director Paul Mitchell, who previously worked with the 52-year-old, is eager for a reunion.

Moreover, the ex-Spurs manager, who has expressed interest in a long-term project, might consider the Newcastle job ideal. Pochettino boasts an impressive managerial record, having led Spurs to the UCL final in 2019 and winning the French league with PSG in 2022.

Former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino eyed for USMNT head coach role

Former Chelsea and PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly emerged as a shock candidate to become the USMNT head coach. The position fell vacant after former manager Gregg Berhalter was sacked following a poor Copa America display.

The US men’s team is also highly interested in Pochettino’s services, seeking a young, high-profile manager with experience working with world-class players. With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, it’s crucial for them to make the right choice for their next coach.

Apart from the 52-year-old, the USMNT had also made an outlandish offer to former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, which was reportedly rejected. Ex-Los Blancos manager Rafa Benitez has also reached out to the USMNT about the position.
