A year ago, sports fans from around the world literally mourned when the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis.
There were other assets involved, but the scars from that trade are still fresh in the minds of not just Dallas sports fans, but many still recall how that single trade changed the landscape of the NBA.
In a year, the Slovenian has established himself as the numero uno on the West Coast, whereas Davis’ story has been quite different. Injuries kept him from playing enough games to justify the trade.
On top of that, the Mavs were in a rut and were thinking about correcting whatever mistake former GM Nico Harrison made. Both the franchise and the Kentucky alum wanted to move on, and despite his freak injury, kept his trade market open.
The Dallas Mavericks are trading 10-time NBA All-Star Anthony Davis, Jaden Hardy, D’Angelo Russell and Dante Exum to the Washington Wizards for Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, 2 first-round picks and 3 second-rounders, sources tell ESPN.

This means the wait is over, and the NBA champion can now move on with his life as the Dallas Mavericks focus on building the team around rookie sensation Cooper Flagg.
Fans react to Mavs giving away Anthony Davis
When the No. 1 overall pick fell into the Dallas Mavericks’ lap, many felt they were lucky, especially since they lost their franchise cornerstone in Luka Doncic for an oft-injured big man who had already crossed the wrong side of the NBA’s age ladder.
Now, for them to give up on Anthony Davis left fans shaking their heads. They believe that the worst trade in the history of the league just became worse. Check out examples of those reactions below.

If Anthony Davis ends up turning the Wizards into championship contenders, Luka Doncic makes the Lakers surefire title favorites, and Cooper Flagg leads the Mavericks back to contention, fans might be at ease.
But until that happens, there is a chance that basketball aficionados will continue talking about last season’s blockbuster trade for years.
Anthony Davis might not play for the Wizards this season
Anthony Davis joins a Washington Wizards team that is currently the league’s fourth-worst team. They already traded for Trae Young earlier this season, but the star point guard hasn’t played a game yet.

It seems the 6’10” forward will also follow his new teammate’s approach, and will most likely be seen on the sideline in ‘street clothes.’ Even though he has avoided surgery for the ligament damage he suffered in his left hand, it is unlikely he will play again.
Shutting him and Young down for the season allows the Wizards to nail two birds with one stone. First, they will be giving their two biggest superstars enough time to recover and come back in peak health next season.
Secondly, the Wizards can continue tanking, as they have let go of some of their best players in this trade to the Mavericks. That way, they can ensure their 2026 draft pick nets them one of the top-tier prospects from this year’s highly rated freshman class.
