Things are not going well at the moment for Max Homa. After a T3 finish at The Masters Tournament last year, the 6-time PGA Tour winner has had a tough time on the course. This past Friday, he missed the cut at The Players Championship. He believes that his career is going in the “complete opposite direction“.

Homa entered this event after missing the cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week. In the first round, he shot a score of 9-over 81 with 9 bogeys and 1 double bogey. Despite a slight improvement in the second round, he finished 3 strokes behind the 4-over cut line in the signature event.

That was Homa’s 3rd straight tournament where he missed the cut. He had previously failed to make the cut at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and the Genesis Invitational as well. Before this, he had finished T26 at The Sentry and T53 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The main issue here is that there was no cut in the two events where he played on the weekend.

Homa’s struggles stretches back to the Open Championship last year. On the final hole of Round 2, he made a crucial putt to birdie the 18th hole and make the cut. Since then, he has not made a single cut in events which feature a cutline.

At the 2025 The Players Championship, Homa once again had a rough outing. The American international fired a score of 79 in the first round with 4 bogeys and 2 double bogeys. He would go on to miss the cut once again.

The way I work, I feel like I deserve to be the best player in the world at some point. I know that sounds crazy, but that’s how I approach each day, is to be the best at it and I’m going the complete opposite direction.

His poor form has also taken a huge hit on his Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) standings. Homa, who found himself in the top 5 as of November 24, 2024, is now ranked 70th in the world rankings.

Max Homa in danger of missing out on major championships following recent dip in form

The dip in form has become a major concern for Max Homa. The golfer, who etched his best major finish last year, is currently in danger of missing out on some of them due to his current form.

With a top-5 finish last year at the Masters Tournament, Homa secured his ticket to the Augusta National this year. However, he is yet to qualify for the U.S. Open and The Open Championship.

Homa’s missed cut at The Players Championship will see him fall out of the top 70 in the OWGR. This would be the first time since 2020 that Homa will be out of the top 70.

To play in the U.S. Open at Oakmont, Homa needs to be in the top 60. As for the Open Championship at Royal Portrush, he needs to be inside the top 50.

I know how hard I work; I know how much I care. So it just feels more just s****y for myself, like internally… It’s hard to care this much about something and just not get anything out of it.

No, I think I finally had a come-to-Jesus moment that it’s for the sick. I was sick. I have not enjoyed that app. It’s not very fun.
