- Bam Adebayo scored a career-high 83 points, surpassing Kobe Bryant's previous record of 81 points in a single game.
- Max Kellerman suggested that Kobe Bryant's fans created a narrative to downplay Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point game after Adebayo's achievement.
- Paul Pierce defended Adebayo's performance, stating that scoring 83 points is a significant accomplishment regardless of the circumstances.
It was a huge shock to the NBA world when Bam Adebayo surpassed Kobe Bryant‘s 81-point record in modern NBA. The Miami Heat center put in a historic performance against the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night. However, the NBA world has been split over the incredible feat.
Bam Adebayo was never known to be a scorer. Heading into the Wizards game, Adebayo had a career-high of 41 points in an NBA game. Known for his defensive prowess, very few could have imagined the 28-year-old being in the record books for his offensive display.
In his greatest ever offensive game, Adebayo scored a career-high 83 points. There were a lot of criticisms about the manner it was achieved and also the opponents being Washington Wizards, who have one of the poorest defenses in the league this season.
His performance put him second behind only Wilt Chamberlain in most points in a single game, overtaking Kobe Bryant. Bryant and Lakers fans did not receive it well and made their feelings known when the announcement was made at the Crypto.com Arena.
Following all the criticism of Adebayo’s performance, Max Kellerman suggested that it was Bryant stans who created the narrative that Wilt Chamberlain never scored 100 points in a game.
It occurred to me after the Bam thing what’s actually going on. You know what that conspiracy about Wilt really was? That’s Kobe stans thinking, ‘If we take 100 points away from Wilt, Kobe has the all time record.’

There have been a lot of doubts surrounding the 100-point game Wilt Chamberlain had in 1962 due to lack of video footage. However, Kellerman believes the narrative has been created by Bryant’s fans. Till Tuesday, Bryant held the modern-day record, but that is gone now.
Paul Pierce compares Bam Adebayo’s performance to Kobe Bryant’s
Bam Adebayo made seven three-pointers against the Wizards. But he went to the line and made 36 out of 43 free throws, which did not go down well with the critics. Paul Pierce, who was a pure scorer himself, came in support of the Heat star and mentioned that it does not matter because end of the day it is still an achievement.

Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce felt Adebayo’s scoring lacked organic elements and, hence, received criticism. Nevertheless, he believed time would look favorably on the performance.
But listen, you score 83 in a game, no matter how you get it, I mean, it’s not going nowhere. The story came out the next morning and it was asterisk you heard words like that. But 10 years from now all you going to remember is he had 83, a man scored 83 in a NBA game period. I don’t care if it was me, if I scored 83 I don’t care what level you score 80 on, that’s an accomplishment bro.

Paul Pierce says Bam Adebayo’s 83 points wasn’t as organic as Kobe Bryant’s 81:

Only five players have breached the 70-point mark in the last 20 years, but only Adebayo broke into the 80-point mark since Bryant. But as Pierce said, years down the line, it will not matter how it was achieved. All that matters is the record is cemented in the record books.
Jaylen Brown on Bam Adebayo getting hate for breaking Kobe Bryant’s record
Jaylen Brown is an avid streamer on Twitch. Known for speaking his mind, Brown caught a lot of attention in the past for his comments on needing to flop to win the MVP award. Unlike other personalities who played down Adebayo’s achievement, Brown believed it was the Wizards who needed to be on the receiving end of criticism.
On his recent live stream, Brown had this to say on the hate Adebayo has received for breaking late Kobe Bryant’s record.
Records are meant to be broken… I don’t see why there has to be any criticism. If anybody deserves criticism it’s the Washington Wizards.

Some fans felt that it was good to see a fellow NBA player coming in support of the Heat star. While there will be critics and slander, it does not take anything away from Adebayo’s achievement, which will be in the history books for years to come.
