On Monday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers kicked started a 3-game series against one of their division rivals, the San Diego Padres. Before the game, Max Muncy made some huge comments and expressed that the San Francisco Giants will always be the “rivals” of the Dodgers instead of the Padres.
The Giants and the Dodgers have a long history with each other. Before moving to their respective cities, the two NL West teams played in New York with the Dodgers playing in Brooklyn and the Giants playing in Manhattan.
Both this teams have achieved success in the past and even in the last 15 years. The two of them have a combined 16 World Series titles (8 each) between them.
On the other hand, the San Diego Padres have been a team has made a huge splash in the past few years. They have gone neck and neck with the Dodgers and have competed against each other in some fierce matchups.
Ahead of the series opener on Monday, Muncy appeared on the Foul Territory podcast and claimed that the Giants will always be the rivals of the Dodgers.
The Padres bring everything that is in a rivalry, but you only have one rival. I don’t like when people say you have rivals. I just think if you have a rival, it’s your counterpart, and that’s always going to be the Giants for the Dodgers, at least, and it’s always going to be the Red Sox for the Yankees.
The 2-time World Series winner did laud the Padres and mentioned that they bring everything to make a rivalry. However, he insisted that a team only has one rival.
The Padres bring everything that a rivalry brings. For me, your rival is just one team, you don’t have multiple teams as your rival.

Max Muncy comments on teams trolling LA Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been one of the most successful franchises in the past decade. Despite that, there have been some moments where their opposition have trolled them. In his appearance on the Foul Territory podcast, Max Muncy would comment on this matter.

The Dodgers recently were in St. Louis to take on the St. Louis Cardinals. Their veteran pitcher Clayton Kershaw was making his 5th start of the season.
Before the game, the Cardinals would troll him and his team by replaying Matt Adams‘ iconic 3-run home run against Kershaw in the 2014 NLDS Game 4. The Dodgers were leading that game 2-0, but the 3-shot home run from Adams turned things around and helped the Cardinals eliminate them from the postseason.
The team kept replaying that moment on the big screen and trolled the southpaw for his failure over a decade ago. On the Foul Territory podcast, Muncy would speak on this matter and claimed that these troll videos had become a “recurring thing” for them.
It’s kind of been a recurring thing we’ve seen with some teams. They keep trying to, you know, play troll videos like that… teams want to kind of take advantage of that. And it never seems to work out well for them, but, you know, they keep doing it.

Speaking of that game against the Cardinals, the Dodgers would grab a 7-3 win. Kershaw would earn his first win of the season by throwing 5 innings and conceding just 1 run through 6 hits.
Max Muncy having a season turnaround at the moment with the Dodgers after wearing glasses
Max Muncy is having a season turnaround at the moment. After starting the year slow, the 2-time MLB All-Star has become hot and is one of the top performers of the Los Angeles Dodgers in recent games. All of this has happened after he started wearing glasses.

The MLB veteran was diagnosed with astigmatism, which propelled him to start wearing prescription glasses during the games. Before the glasses, he was batting with a .180 average and had no home runs, 4 RBIs, and a .531 OPS.
Things have changed since he started wearing them. His batting average has risen to .235 for the season. He has managed to hit 9 home runs and has 31 RBI beside his name.

Several fans are now comparing this rise to the tale of Kike Hernandez. Muncy’s teammate was diagnosed with the same problem and started wearing glasses in 2024. After wearing the glasses, he finished the regular season with a .274/.307/.458 slash line. Before the glasses, he was hitting with a .191 average. So maybe the glasses are the real deal for Muncy at the moment.
