French tennis player Maxime Janvier has accused the organizers of the four Grand Slams of giving special treatment to players like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. He claimed that while the big-name players get entire courts for practicing, the lower-ranked ones have to share courts.
Janvier also claimed that the time given to the higher-ranked players for practice is a lot more than what is allowed for the lower-ranked players and expressed his frustration with such differential treatment.
The 27-year-old stated that while everyone deserves to be treated equally in the tournaments, it does not happen.
There are differences in treatment. Nadal, Federer, these guys, they have a short four hours, the central Melbourne, the central Roland to train. We have 30 minutes max and we have to share the land. That you earn more money, you deserve it. But in a competition, you have to be treated fairly from start to finish. However, it is not the case. It's very uneven. It reflects life in general.Maxime Janvier claimed (H/T: We Love Tennis)
Maxime Janvier secures £100k payday and new house with 2024 Wimbledon qualification
Despite the struggles of differential treatment, Maxime Janvier has managed to put his troubles behind him and made it to the main draw of the 2024 Wimbledon Championship for the first time in his career.
After beating Chinese Tapei’s Yu Hsiou Hsu and American Emilio Nava in straight sets in the first two rounds of the qualifiers, Janvier beat compatriot Giovanni Perricard 7-6(10), 5-7, 6(4)-7, 6(5)-7 to seal his spot in the main draw at SW19.
The win also ensures a $126.5K (£100,000) payday and Janvier made it very clear how he intends to use the money, screaming “La Maison, la maison” (“The house, the house”) as soon as he hit the winner against Perricard.
He is scheduled to face Zhizhen Zhang in the opening round of the Championships and will bag another £33,000 if manages to cause an upset.
