The Las Vegas Raiders are back in the job market after firing head coach Antonio Pierce while Maxx Crosby recovered from an ankle injury. Owner Mark Davis’ decision divided opinions even though Pierce only managed a 4-13 season in his first year with the Vegas team.

Crosby and Pierce went through a small fallout when he started hinting at leaving the team last year but stuck around nonetheless. The All-Pro pass rusher set aside his differences with his former head coach and wished him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

I believed in AP [Antonio Pierce]. This season didn’t go the way anybody expected it, [to be honest]. It’s unfortunate; this business is not easy, and from the coaching side and front office and just constant turnover, and especially being here, I’ve seen a lot. I’m going to be on a new head coach again.

Maxx Crosby said on a recent segment of the Rush Podcast.

The Raiders appointed Pierce midway through the 2023 season after firing Josh McDaniels. Pierce, who played for the franchise back in the day, earned the head coach’s job by leading the team to a 5-4 finish. However, the job proved too much to handle and Davis, who fired four coaches in five years before Pierce, decided to cut ties earlier this week.

Right before the announcement, Crosby hinted that a change was imminent while speaking on the SiriusXM podcast with Peter King and Jim Gray.

Last year, I was very vocal about wanting AP here… That’s very well-known. I don’t take that back; there’s certain things I’ve done in my career that I think, ‘Maybe I shouldn’t have said this’

Maxx Crosby gives update on his future with the Raiders

The Raiders haven’t played postseason football since quarterback Derek Carr led the team in 2021. By all means, they might miss out on it again because it’s always uncertain how a new coach can quickly implement his thoughts and ways to win games—not everyone can be Jim Harbaugh.

This also raised the question about Crosby’s future in Vegas. He is among the best edge rushers around and one of the few the Raiders fans can claim as legitimate future Hall of Famers on the team. However, constant rebuilds can get the better of even the most loyal players.

Crosby accepted a restructuring of his original $94 million deal, last year, which increased his pay by $6 million, but that doesn’t guarantee that he will stay if a playoff team can match the number.

I love being a Raider, I want to win here—I want to win with the Raiders, but we’ll see. There’s going to be a lot of changes, and I’m going to take it one day at a time.

Although the 27-year-old played only 12 games in 2024, he recorded 45 tackles, 17 pass deflections, and 7.5 sacks. Crosby has 366 combined tackles, 59.5 sacks, and 105 pass deflections in 95 NFL games with the Raiders.
