Maxx Crosby Doesn’t Give a S**t About Raiders’ No. 1 Pick Being on the Line This Week Against Giants
The Las Vegas Raiders have held the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft only once, selecting Ja’Marcus Russell in 2007.

The end of the NFL season is not just about who’s clinching a playoff berth or who’s the conference’s top seed, but also about who’s getting the first overall pick in the upcoming draft. As it stands, the New York Giants (2-12) and the Las Vegas Raiders (2-12) are two of the worst teams in the league, positioning both first and second, respectively, in the draft.
And the two are squaring off against each other on Sunday, and will find media presence at the Tankathon outing. The Giants can continue to keep their status at the draft with a loss, but if they manage to defeat the Raiders, the crumbling Las Vegas team will move to first overall. However, all these tanking talks and ranking first in the NFL Draft haven’t bothered Raiders DE Maxx Crosby. Crosby told reporters that he’s planning to give it all like always when they play the Giants.
Yeah, I don’t give a s**t about the pick, to be honest. I don’t play for that. That’s not my job. My job is to be the best defensive end in the world. That’s what I focus on every day. Being a great leader, being an influence. Being that guy on a consistent basis for my team.
Crosby told reporters
It’s not to say that Crosby doesn’t understand that sometimes losing is in the best interests of the team. However, as a player, he’s trained to give his best on the 100 yards of ground as he puts his body under imminent damage. The defensive edge admits that he lets the management worry about things like better draft positioning, his reason being that it doesn’t work well when he worries about things he can’t control.
The Raiders have held the first overall pick just once, and it didn’t fare well. In 2007, the Black and Silver gang selected JaMarcus Russell, who played just three seasons in the league. He had 25 starts, in which he threw around 4,800 yards and a poor touchdown-interception ratio of 18-23. He was eventually released by the Raiders in 2009, after which he found it difficult to sign with any other team.
The Raiders could, despite Crosby’s words, be looking to tank the season as their Geno Smith-Pete Carroll experiment failed massively. The answer to the Raiders’ long-time quarterback inconsistencies wasn’t Smith, and they need a new man in the centre heading into the new season. The best way to land a preferred player would be to land the first overall pick.
The Las Vegas Raiders could give Maxx Crosby a better chance with Fernando Mendoza
The Las Vegas Raiders need a franchise quarterback. After years of poor signal-calling and quarterback inconsistencies despite personal bests from Maxx Crosby, he could suggest a trade. There have been several rumors throughout the season that Crosby would be doing just that. However, getting the Heisman Trophy winner, Fernando Mendoza, can be a step in the right direction for the Raiders.

It could be the reason why Crosby stays on in Vegas for the upcoming seasons. Onto Mendoza, the 22-year-old has led the Hoosiers to a 13-0 record while posting 2,980 yards and a career high 33 touchdowns. He, who played for the California Golden Bears till 2024, has also become the first Indiana Hoosiers athlete to win the coveted Heisman. His performances and speeches also have some adoration from Crosby.
He’s talented, he’s a big quarterback. He can make all the throws, and he’s an underrated athlete. So yeah, big shoutout to him. And his speeches … all time.
Crosby said of Mendoza on “The Rush“
Maxx Crosby is all in on Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza! 🤣 After a viral interview and leading Indiana to a perfect season, he’s now a favorite for the Heisman. Could he be the Raiders' No. 1 pick in 2026? #Raiders #Heisman #NFLDraft pic.twitter.com/b80Qo6kBhS pic.twitter.com/DX8DgdGrze

There are a few teams that really need a change in their quarterbacks. The New York Jets and New Orleans Saints are starved through hell and beyond when it comes to winning quarterbacks. The fight for Mendoza at No. 1 would be pretty iconic and one that the Raiders would love to win.
