The 2-11 Raiders opted for star defensive end Maxx Crosby to undergo ankle surgery early, giving him more recovery time to return stronger in 2025.

The Las Vegas Raiders are 2-11 and tied for the worst record in the league (New York Giants). On top of that, they will no longer have the services of their star defensive end, Maxx Crosby, as he is out for the rest of the season due to an ankle injury.
Following the week 14’s 13-28 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, there was speculation that Crosby was unhappy about his performance. The Raiders announced that the pass rusher carried an injury on his ankle that bothered him throughout the game.
On Saturday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared on X that Crosby will undergo arthroscopic ankle surgery.
Raiders three-time Pro Bowl DE Maxx Crosby, who already has been ruled out for Monday night's game vs. the Falcons due to his ankle injury, is expected to undergo arthroscopic ankle surgery that likely will end his 2024 season, league sources told ESPN.https://t.co/EPawCi4MgF

Maxx Crosby revealed when he hurt his ankle
The 27-year-old confirmed Schefter’s report through an Instagram post a few hours later. He provided a detailed account of how and when he picked up the injury.
Crosby wrote that he tweaked his ankle back in the week 2 win over the Baltimore Ravens and has since been playing through the pain.
However, his injury worsened in the Buccaneers game. The doctors advised him to have surgery as soon as possible. Of course, it meant that he had to call time on his season prematurely.
The multiple-time Pro Bowler was a star in an otherwise lackluster Raiders defense. He played 12 games this year, recording 28 solo tackles, 17 assisted tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, and 5 pass deflections.
Crosby is currently under contract with the Raiders until the 2026 season. He signed a four-year, $98.98 million deal with a base salary of $24.5 million and a cap hit of $30.48 million.
If the Raiders cut Crosby before June 1, 2025, it will free up $7.8 million in cap space. There won’t be any shortage of suitors if the Raiders actually go through with it. However, Crosby has stated before that he sees himself as a Raider for life.
