The crown jewel in the Las Vegas Raiders defense is Maxx Crosby. Since being drafted 106th overall by the team in 2019, he has remained loyal to the silver and white while expressing his desire to stay with the team for the rest of his career. But the NFL is a business at the end of the day and there is a possibility that Crosby could come to a crossroads in his career wherein staying in Vegas is no longer a viable option.
Hypothetically, if there were one team that Maxx Crosby would be interested in joining if the Raiders were no longer an option, it would be his hometown team. The defensive end was born and brought up in Michigan. He went on to play college football at Eastern Michigan, so it comes as no surprise that Crosby would like the opportunity to play for the Detroit Lions.
The three-time Pro Bowler revealed his desire to play for the Lions during an episode of The Rush podcast. It did not take him much time to respond with “We are keeping it creel, The Lions,” when asked which team he would play for apart from the Raiders. This was not the first time he had shown love to his hometown team.
Maxx Crosby’s dream of playing for the Detroit Lions is unlikely to turn into reality
During last season, Crosby told Lions offensive tackle Penei Sewell about his love for the team. Crosby has remained loyal to Detroit despite the team struggling over the last few decades.
But his dream to don the silver and blue may never morph into reality, and that is something that Maxx Crosby will not lose sleep over. That is because the Las Vegas Raiders are handsomely paying the defensive end. As per the terms of his current contract, he will remain in Las Vegas through the 2026 season. He signed a four-year deal worth $94 million and earlier this off-season, received a $6 million raise for his performance.
There is no reason for him to leave the Raiders as he is handsomely compensated. The defensive end has remained at the top of his game since his rookie year. Last season, Crosby had 14.5 sacks and was in the running to win the Defensive Player of the Year honors. Pro Football Focus gave him a 92.7 run-defense grade, one of the highest for his position for his impressive performance.
