- Maxx Crosby's trade to the Ravens was canceled, leaving the Raiders in a difficult position.
- Crosby posted a relaxed image on social media, seemingly unfazed by the trade fallout.
- The Raiders have spent heavily in free agency, complicating their decision on Crosby's future.
Maxx Crosby is on his way back from Baltimore after the Ravens decided to pull the plug on a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, which would have seen the pass rusher wear the iconic purple and black.
The decision came late last night, leaving the football world shocked. Every fan and member of the media knew this cancellation would have a significant effect on this offseason.
After all, the Raiders dived into free agency and handed out fat contracts to many players, some of whom were going to replace the 28-year-old as the team’s new pass rush tandem.
Now, the franchise has a head-scratching situation to solve. On one hand, they have to figure out if they want to keep Maxx Crosby around. If so, they have to rethink the contracts they gave out, as they have already spent upwards of $280 million in free agency.
On the other hand, if they decide to offload the five-time Pro Bowler, they have to do it quickly. The league mandates teams have to register their new contracts by today. If they fail to do so, those offers will be voided.
While the Raiders might have to burn the midnight oil and rethink their strategy, Crosby seems to be as nonchalant as he can be. The former fourth-round pick posted an image of himself relaxing on a private jet with his feet up on the opposite seat.

It seems he is not fazed by the developments and believes someone would want to trade for him. Now, the question is, who would, considering that he failed his Ravens’ physical?
Cowboys’ doctor was present for Maxx Crosby’s Ravens physical
Maxx Crosby was already dealing with a meniscus tear in his right knee, which prompted the Raiders, albeit with some pushback from the pass rusher, to shut him down for the season.

Whoever was in trade conversations knew that it would be a while before the Michigan native recovered. Therefore, league insiders found it bizarre that the Ravens failed his physical despite knowing what they were getting into.
As per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Dr. Daniel Cooper, head physician of the Dallas Cowboys, was present when the Baltimore Ravens conducted the physical examination of the sack artist.

"My understanding is that there were multiple doctors that reviewed his MRI scans. There were doctors that examined him, including Dr. Daniel Cooper, the Dallas Cowboys doctor that performed surgery on Patrick Mahomes and… pic.twitter.com/7BlLxzJvQN
Schefty, as he is known affectionately, remarked that it was not uncommon for Dr. Cooper to be present, as many injured players league-wide go to him for consultation and surgery.
Maybe the Ravens felt that his diagnosis was bad enough for them to back out. This could scupper any chances of the Raiders now getting fair value for a player who clearly does not want to be there.
Retaining Maxx Crosby will be expensive for the Raiders
Adam Schefter also remarked that teams are already calling the Las Vegas Raiders to know their stance on Maxx Crosby. Since this will be the dominating conversation heading into today, the franchise has to make quick decisions.
The Sin City-based organization re-signed starting defensive end Malcolm Koonce and also handed out a three-year, $48 million contract to Kwity Paye, who was viewed as the one who would take up Crosby’s spot.
They also signed former college national championship-winning Georgia Bulldogs linebackers Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker, who can also lend a hand in sacking a quarterback when needed.
That means the Raiders have handed out $135.5 million worth of contracts to four defensive players to join them. Add Maxx Crosby’s $38 million that he will earn next season, and the Raiders’ financial flexibility goes for a toss.

Keeping him is going to be expensive, which is why many believe the Raiders will look to offload him at the earliest. However, to do that, they might have to take whatever is available.
