Justin Herbert channeled his inner Philip Rivers so much that it ticked off Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby. And he paid the price for riling up a feisty character like Crosby.

The incident occurred after the Raiders kicked off an unlikely comeback. Tight end Brock Bowersquick thinking flipped the momentum back in the Vegas team’s favor. Bowers’ second touchdown of the game reduced the lead to below 15 points with seven minutes left until the final whistle.

Herbert and the Chargers slowed down the intensity in order to burn through the clock. On the sixth play of the drive, Herbert found wide receiver Quentin Johnston for a 10-yard gain. The Pro Bowler was fired up by Johnston’s catch and started shouting with excitement.

Crosby was nearby, and he wasn’t exactly thrilled about Herbert shouting in his ear. He pushed Herbert to the ground. Of course, the officials witnessed the whole incident and awarded the Chargers a 15-yard penalty.

Herbert’s predecessor, Philip Rivers, was a master of riling up the opposing team players. Interestingly, Rivers never used swear words because of his Christian upbringing.

The Raiders’ final drive ended on a dud. Trey Lance came on for Herbert for the final snaps and secured a 31-14 win for the Chargers.

Chargers veteran safety Derwin James Jr. was asked about the heated exchange between his quarterback and Crosby. James saw the whole thing unfold while standing on the sidelines.

Oh, I was mad about that. I was hot about that. I was actually standing on the sideline, but I got a good relationship with Maxx. I know he’s not that type of player. Hopefully, he didn’t do it on purpose.

Concerning news struck the Chargers camp following the win against the Raiders

Justin Herbert finished with 15 completions from 21 pass attempts for 151 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. However, the Oregon graduate’s spot on the Chargers’ first team is uncertain after reports surfaced that he is set to undergo surgery on his left hand.

Daniel Propper of The Athletic tweeted,

Justin Herbert broke a bone in his hand and will have a procedure tomorrow, Jim Harbaugh said. Harbaugh said he doesn’t know if Herbert will miss any time.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed the news on a different tweet.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert fractured his left hand today vs. the Raiders and is set to undergo surgery Monday, per HC Jim Harbaugh. The team is uncertain if Herbert will miss any time.

The Chargers play the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 14. If Herbert doesn’t play, Lance might be making his first regular-season start for the LA team.
