The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly in active discussions to strengthen their defensive lineup. The Cowboys, who have emerged as a Super Bowl contender, could transform into a reckoning force with added support on the defensive side of the ball.
Team owner and general manager, Jerry Jones, is reportedly exploring potential trade opportunities as the NFL trade deadline approaches. According to sports writer Trey Wingo, the Cowboys have made inquiries with the Las Vegas Raiders regarding the availability of Maxx Crosby, one of the league’s premier pass rushers.
Despite boasting one of the league’s most dynamic offenses, the Cowboys’ defense has struggled to maintain consistency. Analysts believe that acquiring a player of Crosby’s caliber could significantly elevate the team’s playoff prospects.

Crosby, 28, has been a cornerstone of the Raiders’ defense since being drafted in 2019. A four-time Pro Bowler and one-time First-Team All-Pro, he has posted elite numbers in tackles, sacks, and forced fumbles, placing him among the top edge rushers in the NFL in his first six seasons in the league.
From a business point of view, the Cowboys have considerable draft capital available following the Parsons trade, which netted them two first-round selections from the Green Bay Packers. The Raiders, currently in a rebuilding phase, are expected to be active sellers ahead of the trade deadline. With Crosby’s production and leadership, the Raiders could get a substantial return in draft assets if they decide to move him.
The move would come at a steep cost. According to Sports Illustrated’s Matt Galatzan, Dallas would likely need to part with a 2026 first-round pick, additional mid-round selections, and absorb Crosby’s three-year, $106.5 million contract. While the four-time Pro Bowler would immediately strengthen Dallas’ pass rush, his hefty deal could limit future cap flexibility, particularly regarding extensions for players like George Pickens.
Despite financial challenges, the Cowboys may still pursue Crosby if they view him as a key piece in a Super Bowl push. One other obstacle in the trade discussions could be Crosby’s recent injury.
The defensive end sustained a lower-body setback during the Raiders’ game against the Kansas City Chiefs, following a low block to his knees. Although early reports indicate that the injury is not expected to have long-term implications, teams will be closely monitoring his recovery status in the days ahead.
Dez Bryant’s latest tweet adds more fuel to the Maxx Crosby trade rumors
Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant publicly endorsed the idea on social media and intensified the speculation surrounding a possible trade between the Dallas Cowboys and the Las Vegas Raiders for star defensive end Maxx Crosby.

Bryant, a three-time Pro Bowl selection and one of the most recognizable players in recent Cowboys history, expressed excitement about the possibility of seeing Crosby in a Dallas uniform. In a post shared on X, Bryant hinted that he would be eager to own a “Crosby Cowboys jersey,” adding fuel to one of the most talked-about rumors of the week.

Tracing the origins of the speculation, it started when Trey Wingo reported on a talk between the two franchises. With Bryant in the mix, Wingo’s claim has been cemented further. However, according to Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, a source within the Cowboys organization denied that any formal communication had taken place between the two franchises.
Hill clarified that while internal discussions about defensive upgrades may have occurred, no official outreach to Las Vegas had been made.
If Maxx Crosby were made available, several teams beyond the Cowboys could aggressively pursue him. A report by Moe Moton identified four other teams that could be frontrunners in such a scenario. The Buffalo Bills could strengthen their weak run defense by adding Crosby alongside Joey Bosa, while the Detroit Lions could pair him with Aidan Hutchinson to create a dominant pass-rushing duo.
The San Francisco 49ers, reeling from injuries to Nick Bosa and Fred Warner, might target Crosby to reinforce a defense poised for a deep playoff run. Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders could use him to bolster a struggling pass rush.
