Star pass rusher Maxx Crosby had high hopes when the Super Bowl-winning Pete Carroll was introduced as the next head coach of his Las Vegas Raiders.

He, much like the franchise’s fans, and his fellow teammates, believed this was going to be the start of a new era where winning becomes a norm rather than an anomaly.

That hope might have to wait for a while after the Raiders posted a miserable 2-13 season so far, which led to the franchise firing OC Chip Kelly, and are unwillingly in the fight to win the No. 1 overall draft pick next season.

Their next game is essentially the battle that could decide who gets that elusive draft selection next April, and on that note, the Raiders decided they should shut down their best player.

Raiders told Maxx Crosby they want to shut him down last two games. Crosby, who has played with injuries for much of the year, vehemently disagreed and has left the building NFL on FOX has learned. This could lead to questions on his future in Vegas.

This means Maxx Crosby, who recently talked about not being interested in tanking for the No. 1 overall pick, has been shut down, as his team seemingly wants to go after a chance to draft the best college prospect.

The 28-year-old was not happy with the decision and has left their facilities, which now could start trade rumors considering an unhappy player would likely not want to stick around.

Pete Carroll explains why Raiders shut down Maxx Crosby

As soon as Jay Glazer‘s revelation became public, the news quickly went viral, leaving reporters to scramble to reach the Raiders’ media facilities, and ask Pete Carroll about it.

We talked before he was getting out of here. He’s been fighting it (knee injury) so hard… After an evaluation… it just looked too bad. He didn’t want to take the news like that… He knows that he’s banged up. He said ‘I’d like to get out of here’ and I said ‘yeah, get out of here’ so he took off.

Pete Carroll replied

The oldest head coach in the league detailed how Maxx Crosby has been battling through his knee injury since Week 7 when they played the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

Carroll understands that the competitor inside his best defensive player was pushing him through these past ten weeks, but their recent scans were not good enough for them to allow Crosby to continue putting pressure on his banged-up knee.

Pete Carroll agrees with Maxx Crosby’s decision to leave

After Pete Carroll explained why he and the Raiders felt it was important to shut down Maxx Crosby, at least for their next game against the New York Giants, reporters asked if the Michigan native had stormed off.

The competitor that he is, the reaction that gave… It was exactly like you would think he would do, and he should do. And I agree with him a 1000% on it… I get it.

Pete Carroll replied

Carroll reiterated that he was absolutely fine with the way his team captain responded, and understands where he is coming from. The head coach then reaffirmed that this decision to leave the facilities is not going to hamper Crosby’s relationship with the franchise.

He and his coaches, along with their medical staff, want their best player to make a full recovery so that his long-term health is not compromised. This could be an indication that they might shut him down for their 2025 season finale against the Chiefs.
