At UFC Vegas 107, it was the first time Bruce Buffer didn’t announce the main event of a fight card. The main event women’s flyweight bout between Maycee Barber and Erin Blanchfield was cancelled at the very last possible moment. It shocked everyone who had waited for the fight and expected to witness the highly anticipated clash between the rising contenders.

Later, it was confirmed Barber withdrew from the fight, offering no specific reasons, which sparked speculation among MMA fans and media. Blanchfield later revealed she heard Barber suffered a seizure backstage, just before walking out. This did create a widespread concern and confusion online. Despite heavy criticism, Barber addressed everything and explained the situation.

Not what I had planned for a Sunday post. Thank you to everyone for the prayers & support I owe an apology to @ufc @mickmaynard2 @danawhite @seanshelby & @blanchfield_mma ** PS my life is not messy this is just a bad hand. We will get to the bottom of it all and be back.

In the post, Barber shared footage of herself being stretchered from the arena, confirming her condition was serious and legitimate. Her final comment, “My life’s not messy,” directly responded to Blanchfield’s jab about Barber deliberately messing up her professional career. Despite the explanation, many fans were disappointed and mocked the main event, which had already received heavy criticism before.

It wasn’t the first time Barber had pulled out from a fight. She did the same in the 2024 fight against Rose Namajunas. According to the fighter, she faced complications from the Epstein-Barr virus, citing severe fatigue and not being in fighting ready condition. Medical advice warned that continuing could risk permanent damage, forcing her team to pull her from the UFC Denver main event.

Though disappointed, Barber focused on recovery, keeping fans informed on Instagram and promising a strong comeback after full health restoration. Speculation surrounds a possible reschedule of the cancelled fight at UFC Vegas 107. However, Blanchfield publicly stated she no longer wishes to pursue the fight, potentially ending hopes for a future matchup between them.

The biggest recent pullouts from UFC bouts

The fight game is incredibly uncertain and a lot of things have to go together in order for the fights to take place on the scheduled night. However, often things don’t work out and here are some of the biggest examples of it in recent years.

Conor McGregor’s long-awaited return at UFC 303 was canceled just days before the event due to a broken toe suffered in training. The bout against Michael Chandler had massive hype, but fans were left frustrated, forcing UFC to scramble and rework the main card. Since then, there has been no update about Mystic Mac’s comeback fight.

Arman Tsarukyan withdrew from UFC 311’s title fight against Islam Makhachev because of a back injury, derailing his biggest opportunity to date. Dana White announced Tsarukyan must now fight again before earning another title shot, leaving fans disappointed by the vacant main event. It was one of the biggest lightweight bouts that didn’t take place, allowing Renato Moicano to step in.

Last year, Diego Lopes vs. Brian Ortega collapsed at UFC 303 after Ortega pulled out hours before due to health complications. Dan Ige stepped in on short notice, made weight successfully, and bravely accepted the fight without the benefit of a full camp. Despite the circumstances, Ige delivered an impressive performance against the surging Lopes, earning praise for his toughness, grit, and professionalism.
