“Me Too” – Virat Kohli reacts to “Miss you MS Dhoni” banner during second T20I against Australia

Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni

Former India skipper MS Dhoni announced his retirement in August this year. Yet his fans make sure his presence is felt during team India’s tour Down Under. The fans were seen waving banners which read, “We miss you MS Dhoni“, during the ongoing white ball series. And to everyone’s surprise, Dhoni’s successor Virat Kohli reacted to the poster.
Fielding in the deep, Kohli turned towards the fans and signalled “me too“. His reaction to the banner from India fans at the Sydney Cricket Ground is going viral on social media. Fans are in awe of Kohli’s gesture for his former teammate, Dhoni, who he hails as his mentor.
The Mahi-Rat connection

Kohli and Dhoni have had a great rapport on and off the field. Over the years, the Indian skipper has acknowledged the role Dhoni played in nurturing him after the former took over the reins of the senior national team. Kohli started off his captaincy stint as India’s Test captain as early as 2014 after the charismatic glovesman retired from the longest format. The Delhi batsman then took over the reins in the limited-overs format in 2017.
Dhoni stepped down as the captain of the white ball sides to nurture Kohli for the 2019 World Cup. And played a crucial role in ensuring a smooth transition as he continued as wicketkeeper-batsman. Dhoni’s last international fixture turned out to be India’s semi-final defeat to New Zealand in London.
Even after hanging his boots in international cricket, the World Cup-winning skipper continues to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni returned to competitive cricket in IPL 2020. Despite not reaching the play-offs with Chennai Super Kings, he confirmed that he is not going to retire from all formats of the game any time soon. Dhoni is set to return in yellow in IPL 2021 with hopes of bouncing back after a disastrous season with a revamped side.
