The Philadelphia Eagles have won their second Super Bowl and this time too it seems that the team is unlikely to act on a custom that has been followed by teams lifting the Lombardi Trophy year after year. The custom is visiting the White House. After Philly won their first ring in 2018, the team refused to visit the President.

Sensing the team’s reluctance to visit, then President Donald Trump disinvited the team. The Eagles have now won their second Super Bowl but it seems unlikely that they will choose to visit the White House this year as well.

This has resulted in one influential Eagles fan getting frustrated with the team. FOX journalist Megyn Kelly who has been vouching for Philadelphia to beat the Kansas City Chiefs is not happy with a report that suggested Philly intends to pass up on the custom of visiting the White House.

Wish I had known this before the Super Bowl. I wouldn’t have wasted my time rooting for them. Eagles fan? Your team sucks” was the caption on the original post.

SAME. GO F YOURSELVES EAGLES…But F this BS.

Megyn Kelly tweeted

Kelly confirmed that the only reason she rooted for the Eagles in the Super Bowl was because her husband Doug Brunt is a fan of the team and she chose to vouch for them. This led the New York Post to reach out to the Philadelphia Eagles and the White House for comment but both declined.

Megyn Kelly is likely to have gotten her facts wrong in this instance

After Kelly’s comments, her peers and fans began to correct her. There is a good chance that she was not informed well on this subject. Clay Travis of Outkick stated that the Eagles are yet to reject an invite to the White House. The news that Philadelphia has taken a stance against visiting President Donald Trump in Washington holds no merit at this point.

In Kelly’s defense, she issued an update that the White House denied ever asking the team about visiting the President. Her pro-Trump stance is interesting considering the two were at each other’s throats during his 2016 campaign. The President left no stone unturned when it came to calling her out but things seem to be different now.

Considering the prevailing confusion, For The Win set the record straight. As per the source, the White House is yet to issue an invite to the Eagles, and “A source close to the NFL foresees the Eagles ‘accepting’ a Trump invite once it’s made.” However, a report by The Sun had claimed that Philly is not too keen on accepting an invite.

In simple words, as of today, the White House has not issued an official invite and Philadelphia has not decided if they intend to visit the President or not. In 2018, the Eagles declined the invite on the pretext of standing by Colin Kaepernick. The President had mandated athletes to stand when the national anthem played and Jeffrey Lurie, the owner of the Eagles, a staunch believer of liberal politics and ardent supporter of the Democrats ensured his team took an anti-Trump stance.

Jeffrey Lurie has been a consistent contributor to the campaigns of Democratic candidates such as Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden. He has been outspoken when it comes to issues of social justice, racial equality, and LGBTQ rights. For now, it cannot be confirmed if the Eagles intend to visit the White House or not.
