It looks like Mekhi Becton had been holding in a lot of frustrations for the home stadium of his original NFL team, the New York Jets. The minute he parted ways, it seemed he was simply waiting for someone to ask, allowing him to finally express everything he had been holding in for four seasons.

Becton’s run in New York hadn’t been idealistic for a first-round pick. The four seasons he spent there after being drafted as the 11th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, ended in disappointment, which eventually forced him out when his contract ended.

Since his departure from them this offseason, he returned to the stadium for the first time this Sunday during the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Jets. Following the 20-14 victory against the Jets, he claimed that he wished to never return to the MetLife Stadium in New York City.

I don’t wanna play in that s**tty stadium. It’s bad. Everything is just bad about that stadium. I don’t really like it. I’m just glad I only gotta do it one time a year. Just gotta go in there, do my 1-11 and go home.

Mekhi Becton asserted, in a conversation with CBS Sports

Becton isn’t the only player who has spoken ill about MetLife Stadium. The Jets’ wide receiver Garrett Wilson labeled the stadium as “garbage” despite the new synthetic turf installed ahead of the 2023 NFL season.

Mekhi Becton shares feeling like the ‘little brother’

Besides his complaints about the home stadium, the offensive tackle doesn’t have any grudges or odd feelings for the Jets. In fact, while speaking to CBS Sports, he shared feeling like a “little brother” on the football field on Sunday, shared by both Philadelphia and New York.

It’s like a whole another side. The way I put it when I was there, we was like the little brothers to them. On their side, they had all their trophies and Super Bowls and on or side…we were the New York Jets.

Mekhi Becton added

The Louisville product’s time in New York also got affected by his injuries, to such an extent that he only played one game between the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Over the course of four years, he appeared in 31 games before bidding goodbye as a free agent in 2024. Philly acquired him from free agency with a one-year contract and he has appeared in all five of their games this season.
