‘Furious’ Mel Kiper Jr. blasts Panthers organization for the way in which they handled Bryce Young’s benching saga
Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper and HC Dave Canales are the reason for Bryce Young's horrible play, says Mel Kiper Jr.

Bryce Young is at a juncture in his namesake NFL career where he does not know how the future holds. Two awful games led head coach Dave Canales to bench him in favor of Andy Dalton.
Now with the Carolina Panthers trying to figure out how to improve their position in the league table, analyst Mel Kiper Jr. has questions for owner David Tepper. The longtime analyst was speaking with Mike Greenberg on ESPN’s Get Up.
You take out the three games he threw multiple interceptions, he had six touchdowns, three picks. Had some decent games last year. Then you go into this year, and you change everything because C.J. Stroud’s doing so well in Houston. Yes, his confidence was shattered. But to 'blame this on Bryce Young' is ridiculous. The blame here goes to the organization, the owner, for mishandling this young quarterback.Mel Kiper Jr. said
Mel Kiper Jr.’s rant was to bring to a gist of the problems Bryce Young has faced since he was drafted. He felt that the organization, starting from owner David Tepper and HC Dave Canales, was the ones to blame.
Primarily Tepper, as he has not showed one bit of patience with any personnel. To draft a quarterback who played in one system all throughout his college career and then hand him three different playbooks in a little more than a year is not the best way.
Mel Kiper Jr. prefers Bryce Young to sit behind Andy Dalton
Kiper Jr. feels the organization starting from David Tepper has bogged Young down. They should have built a stable setup to help him develop. Instead, the Carolina Panthers blew everything up just because the quarterback they did not draft fired up the league.
With Bryce Young‘s future in jeopardy, Mel Kiper Jr. had an interesting suggestion during the same rant.
He does need to sit behind Andy Dalton for a little bit.Mel Kiper Jr. said
The analyst suggesting that Young should sit behind Andy Dalton for a while stems from two possible beliefs. One is the obvious need for the 23-year-old to regain his confidence. The second could be with giving time for the rest of the team to play better collectively.
The team is, after all, playing in a completely new system under new head coach Dave Canales. For his system to be implemented in the team, they will need some stability under center. With Young’s broken confidence, that becomes a serious problem for them. So, until the rest of the team starts to gel and play better, it is better for the former Heisman Trophy winner to sit back and study.
Andy Dalton is not a long-term lock at the quarterback position for any team. But until he can help bring stability, Bryce Young can work himself back into a position to take over. Then probably he will be able to show his worth.
