During the 2024 ATP season, 13 players served 500+ aces, and surprisingly enough, Carlos Alcaraz didn’t make the list. The likes of Grigor Dimitrov, Alexander Bublik, and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard shockingly reached the milestone. However, only one player in men’s tennis breached the 800-ace record for the calendar year.

Last year, Hubert Hurkacz was the only man to serve more than 700 aces throughout the campaign featuring in just 69 matches. This year, the Pole did feature on the ATP Tour ace chart list but didn’t come close to replicating his 2023 1,000-ace record.

In fact, no player in the ATP managed to come within touching distance of last year’s record. In this piece, we will take a deep dive into the Top 3 players with the highest number of aces this year.

3) Hubert Hurkacz – 776 aces

Hurkacz is one of the best servers of his generation. At the Italian Open in May, Rafael Nadal was praised for his great serves and has been likened to John Isner. He hit 1,031 serves last year in only 69 matches, a mind-blowing record for the Polish star. This season, he struggled with injuries and played only 59 matches.

Yet, he hit 776 serves this season and won 69.3% of his service points. He only served 101 double faults. Due to his inconsistent run this year, the Polish star only managed to win one title, which came at the Estoril Open in April.

2) Taylor Fritz – 795 aces

Fritz was one of the most consistent players on the Tour this season and the most improved by far than any other player. The American reached his first Grand Slam final and ATP Finals title match. But, lost the two titles to Jannik Sinner. In 2021, Fritz hit 530 aces; the following year, it was 642; and last year, he served 692 aces.

His consistent rise in this key aspect of his game has seen a 13% increase this year, the fourth best in the Top 10 behind Mpetshi Perricard (21.1%), Hurkacz (14.9%) and Bublik (14.2%). The 27-year-old claimed the two titles this season and got into the second week of all four Grand Slam events.

1) Alexander Zverev – 808 aces

Without an iota of doubt, Alexander Zverev surprised the tennis world this season. Apart from finishing as runners-up at the French Open, reaching a career-high World No.2 in the ATP rankings was a great achievement.

Also, acknowledging how poorly he started the season while still regaining from a horrific injury he suffered last year, only reveals how much of a season he has had.

The German finally surpassed the 5,000-ace career milestone this season. He served 808 aces this year, his best in a single season. Additionally, he won two Masters 1000 titles, first the Italian Open and then the Paris Masters.
