Once an unpopular hot take at the UFC bantamweight limits, Merab Dvalishvili is now the reigning UFC 135-pound king. He is indeed a hot take who strung up an 12-fight UFC winning streak at bantamweight. The wrestle-heavy Georgian has outclassed former champs, undefeated challengers, and big names alike. Now, Dvalishvili sends a quirky heart note to former champ Sean O’Malley.
Merab Dvalishvili bagged the UFC 135-pound undisputed title from Sean O’Malley at UC 306, this past September. Dvalishvili credits 15 of his 19 career victories to decisions; some, though, were so dominant a scramble that makes it unfathomable. The fadeout of the “Suga Show” was the same with a pressure-creating pace and wrestling to fluster him.
He rained on Sean O’Malley with consistent ground-and-pound and even mocked him fence-side with kisses to the nape on the neck. The former champ, who once won the 2024 Best Fighter ESPY based on his striking output over Marlon Vera, could do nothing.

O’Malley’s counter and TD defense were almost nonexistent. Now, Dvalishvili sends him a Valentine’s message and mocks Sean O’Malley on their body-contact ‘romantic’ beatdown! To make things even stranger, the 135-pound king sent “Suga” an e-card to celebrate Valentine’s Day 2025.
Some fans saw it as a perfect way to start off the most romantic day of the season when he’s on such a roll. Dvalishvili even defeated previously undefeated Umar Nurmagomedov via unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 49-46) in a major title upset over the -280 betting favorite for his maiden defense. Now ready for his next challenge, he’s narrowed his list of potential opponents to two.
Merab Dvalishvili provides fight update after UFC 311 and stumps not-so-humble Dagestani
Shortly after he had the fans in stitches with his jibe at O’Malley, footage of Dvalishvili talking about his next fight began to circulate on the web. The Georgian “Machine” named his UFC 306 opponent Sean O’Malley on a two-man list of potential opponents. Dvalishvili travelled to Australia to enjoy UFC 312 in Sydney. He spoke about his UFC 311 win, his friend and compatriot Ilia Topuria, and who he’ll fight next.

O’Malley told streamer Adin Ross that he needed surgery on his hip cartilage (labrum) after Noche UFC PPV. While out and about, he still expects to be Dvalishvili’s next defense. The champ is eager on it as they have a dynamic and callouts going on. As for Umar Nurmagomedov and a possible rematch on ‘humble’ terms, now that he disputes the loss?
He make lots of excuses after, …That’s easy way. I think he should just be humble and blame himself and learn from his mistakes and get better…That’s a respectful recommendation from me — But he knows himself and his things, …he can do what he wants.

The bantamweight champion is also eyeing a quick turnaround in April or June. Additionally, he listed Petr Yan, whom he defeated over the course of five rounds. Mean “Machine” was gunning for big draw Deiveson Figueiredo to add to his legacy.
Figueiredo was a former champ one weight down, and has quite a few ranked wins at 135. However, Yan went “No Mercy” in the UFC Macau event headliner and outboxed him. The now resurgent Yan may end up receiving his title shot if the UFC snubs O’Malley in the end.
