Since her tumultuous WWE exit in mid-2023, Mercedes Mone hasn’t really spoken highly of her former workplace. That isn’t abnormal by any stretch, given that she now is one of the top stars in WWE’s rival promotion, All Elite Wrestling. Speaking of which, the Tony Khan-led company is now under the gun with WWE on the charge to counter their shows.
Mone was asked by Scott Fishman of TV Insider to lend her thoughts on the wrestling juggernaut resorting to such a strategic move. The reigning AEW TBS Champion bluntly claimed that she neither watches WWE nor does she cares about what they are up to these days. The erstwhile Sasha Banks then gloated about the eight championship belts she’s currently holding across numerous wrestling promotions.
I don’t watch them. I don’t care about them. I’m ‘Eight Belts Moné.’ I’m a champion of so many different companies. So, the more the merrier. If they want to put on wrestling shows while we have wrestling shows, I’m always going to be better.

The 33-year-old said that even if WWE directly opposes AEW television, it wouldn’t bother her, as she’s always going to be better. Like a true company soldier, ‘The CEO’ asserted that AEW is taking over at the moment and urged fans to watch their product if they intend on consuming better wrestling. Mone, while not sounding bitter, made her intentions clear by not backing down from whatever comes her way.
Mercedes Moné was asked what she makes of WWE’s attempts at counter-programming AEW:

On September 20, a main-roster WWE PLE called Wrestlepalooza will go head-to-head with an AEW PPV, viz., All Out: Toronto, for the first time ever. WWE is planning to hold Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena and Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre for the WWE title as two big-money matches for the night to bolster their programming.
Mercedes Mone addresses creative control rumors while lauding the AEW women’s division
Having joined AEW in March 2024, Mercedes Mone is in her second year with the Jacksonville-based promotion. In the aforementioned conversation, she was asked to reflect on the recently surfaced online narrative claiming she has creative control in the company. Mone responded by saying that she works with whoever her boss, Tony Khan, asks her.

Without going into the weeds about whether she does enjoy any creative pull, the California-born wrestler revealed why she decided to join AEW. ‘The Blueprint’ said she was blown away by the drive and passion of the women who work there and went on to affirm that AEW possesses the best women’s division on the globe with the likes of Toni Storm, Athena, Willow Nightingale, Kris Statlander, etc., on hand.
I work with whoever Tony wants me to work with. That’s why I’m “The CEO.” That’s why I came here because I watched the women, and said, “This is the place for me to be because there is so much passion and drive.”

Mone also said that the past 1.5 years have seen a drastic shift in women getting more airtime and in-depth storylines across the board. One could certainly cite the prime example of Toni Storm and current NXT superstar Blake Monroe, fka Mariah May.
Their feud transcended the prevailing standards of brutality in women’s wrestling. Speaking of Mone’s upcoming ventures, she has a major TBS title defense on August 24. She will take on Alex Windsor, Persephone, and Bozilla in a Fatal 4-Way match at Forbidden Door: London.
Mercedes Mone congratulates Naomi for announcing her pregnancy
This past Monday on Raw, Naomi announced that she’s pregnant. She became only the second woman in WWE, after Becky Lynch, to unveil a pregnancy while holding the women’s title. That being said, Mercedes Mone was asked how she felt about it and the fact that the trend of women juggling between motherhood and wrestling is becoming a norm these days.

Mone says she’s very excited to be the aunt of Trinity Fatu‘s baby, adding that she loves the latter to death. ‘The CEO’ also expressed gratitude for Naomi as she helped Mone kickstart her wrestling career. The cousin of Snoop Dogg further stated that female wrestlers getting to have their jobs while having children and then coming back even stronger is such an upside of the pro wrestling business these days.
Mone and Naomi walked out of WWE together in 2023 over creative disagreements and a lack of respect from the management back then. Even though the ‘Queen of Glow’ would return to the company in January 2024, the former Sasha Banks decided to take a different route.
