After just a day of partying and champagne, the New York Mets had a fight to catch for their Game 1 faceoff against the Milwaukee Brewers. After getting into the playoffs with a Wild Card entry, the team is already making noise in the postseason.

In Game 1, the NY Mets won 8-4 against the Brewers to advance to the NLDS. However, early in the game, the fans got to enjoy some tension between the Mets outfielder Jesse Winker and his former Brewers teammate Willy Adams on the field.

The incident took place right after Winker tied the game with a two-run triple in the 2nd inning. They appeared to be shouting at one another but according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Winker was chewing gum which appeared as him speaking to Adams.

However, there were words exchanged later on but as for the details, both players decided to move on and focus on the playoffs. Both of them said they were not interested in delving into the matter further and just wanted to focus on their team and the next games.

I don’t know what was going through his head, but he just started saying some stuff and I said something back. I don’t know. I think that’s the kind of player he is…I guess that’s part of his personality. It was just a little bit of surprise to me, but we don’t back off.

When asked what Jesse Winker thought of it, he said,

I don’t really want to speak on it. I just want to focus on the game tomorrow.

Winker further added that he was “fired up” for Game 1 with “a ton of emotions” running throughout the field. It was bound to be an emotional game for the Mets as they were tied with a doubleheader just a couple of days back without playoff entry, and now they are participating in the October games.

Jesse Winker booed by former team during Game 1

Jesse Winker was asked what he thought of the fans booing him after he was traded from the Milwaukee Brewers and is currently once again facing them. “I don’t care,” he said. During his tenure with the Brewers, he posted a career-worst record and the fans started booing him whenever he’d be on the field.

Seems like that hasn’t changed much till now, as he may experience a deja vu given the Mets face the Brewers again sometime in the future. Winker praised his teammates saying they were the reason the Mets made it this far and even helped guide him along the way.

It’s go time, you’re in the playoffs,” there’s no time to waste mulling over the past incidents, Winker said. He noted, “We did our job there and then we popped champagne and then we got on the plane and it was like ‘alright here we go’.”
