First baseman Pete Alonso still remains in free agency in the wake of the New Year. He is yet to find his dream home in MLB as age and contract years became a factor in his possible signing. However, Alonso’s side has now offered “an olive branch” noting 3-years deal with opt-outs for the Mets.

While the Mets are considered the ‘likely’ option in the bid, there’s a hold-up from the team’s side. They are unwilling to offer a multiple-year contract to the 30-year-old after their historic signing of outfielder Juan Soto. This new offer may change the tide and finally form a bridge between these two parties.

Alonso possibly wanted to challenge the $200 million mark this offseason, but major teams have already signed off from the race. Last year, he turned down the Mets’ 7-year $158 million deal, and he might end up regretting his choice.

Even a couple weeks ago, the team offered Alonso 3-year $90 million deal which the player reportedly denied. Amid the controversies, a new competitor name came up in the spotlight for the first baseman’s services – the Los Angeles Angels. However, the Mets fans may get their dream come true to see Alonso wearing their uniform for the next few years.

Currently, there may have been a hold up in Alonso’s free agency but things are finally starting to look up for the first baseman. Furthermore, as Ron Darling mentioned this might the Mets last option to come on terms with a deal and secure the Juan Soto-Pete Alonso lineup.

Can Juan Soto-Pete Alonso dream lineup come true in 2025?

Since the historic sign-up of Juan Soto with the New York Mets, the fans have been waiting to see Pete Alonso back in the lineup for the 2025 race. Given the current rumors their wish may really come true.

MLB insider Danny Abriano commented how the Mets will need another at-bat to protect Juan Soto in the upcoming 2025 race. Alonso just might be the answer if they both agree to a deal. Furthermore, Alonso being one of the faces of the organization and a commendable player on field will help solidify their roster for this season.

With all final offers on the table, Alonso will have to make his decision. Either he has to lower his expectations on contract length or the money and sign with a team for his 2025 season or wait for some more time to gain more clarity on the situation.

Currently, teams like – the NY Yankees, Houston Astros, Washington Nationals, Cleveland Guardians, and Arizona Diamondbacks have already added their first baseman. On the other hand, if he signs with the Mets they’ll have a deadly lineup of players for 2025.

They can challenge the current World Series champions with a lineup consisting of Pete Alonso, Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor, and Mark Vientos. It all depends on Alonso and how he’ll move in free agency with limited teams available now.
