The New York Mets finally made a huge move on Friday. Hours after missing out on Kyle Tucker to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the National League side switched their attention to Bo Bichette and landed the shortstop on a 3-year, $126 million deal.
The Mets were one of the teams that were in the race for Tucker. Having lost the likes of Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimmo, and Jeff McNeil, the Queens-based side was hoping to add a big bat to their lineup.
As per reports, the team offered a 4-year, $220 million deal to Tucker. However, the outfielder chose the Dodgers over them and joined the reigning champions on a 4-year, $240 million deal.
After losing him, the Mets shifted gears and turned the page to Bichette. They were quick in negotiations with him and came to an agreement on a 3-year, $126 million deal, which will see him earn $42 million per year.

Bichette was picked by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2016 draft and made his debut for the team in 2019. Last season, he was one of the top performers of the team as they reached their first World Series since 1993.
The 27-year-old had a .311/.357/.483 slash line and hit 18 home runs and had 94 RBIs in 139 regular-season games. After suffering a knee injury in September, he missed the rest of the regular season and made his return to the lineup during the World Series against the Dodgers.
In the Fall Classic, Bichette had a .348/.444/.478 slash line and hit a massive 3-run home run in Game 7 against Shohei Ohtani. Unfortunately, his efforts went in vain in this game as the Dodgers came back and won 5-4 in extra innings to repeat as champions.
Bichette would then become a free agent. With the moves made by the Blue Jays in the offseason, it seemed likely that he would not return to the team. The 2-time All-Star will now represent the Mets.

Bichette, who plays in the shortstop position, will undergo a transition in position. The Mets currently have Francisco Lindor as their shortstop. Bichette will thus be transitioned to the third base and occupy a new infield position.
Phillies suffer major blow as Mets steal Bo Bichette in stunning move
After losing Kyle Tucker, the New York Mets swooped in and took away Bo Bichette. The Philadelphia Phillies were thus the team that suffered the major blow as their division rivals stole him from their grasp.

According to reports, the Phillies had a productive meeting with Bichette recently and were viewed as the clear favorites to land him. As per Bob Nightenagle, the team had agreed to his request of a 7-year, $200 million deal.
The Mets jumped in late and worked fast. They eventually were successful in convincing Bichette and his camp, and got him.
The Phillies had agreed to Bo Bichette’s request for a 7-year, $200 million deal last night and believed they would sign him until the Mets swooped in with their 3-year, $126 million offer after losing out in in the Kyle Tucker sweepstakes.

The Phillies then responded to this setback by bringing back J.T. Realmuto. They signed the catcher on a 3-year, $45 million deal. With this signing, the team have brought back 2 of their top 3 free agent stars, having signed Kyle Schwarber on a 5-year, $150 million deal in December.
